Craig and Clare catch up and discuss their first times: Clare winning the prestigious Student Nursing Times Student Nurse of the Year (Mental Health) Award 2020 and gaining a promotion at work. And Craig, shadowing Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnerships' Homeless and Asylum services, gaining insight into the incredible and innovative work they are doing.
Together, they chat to newly registered general practice nurse Claire Carmichael, who is also a General Practice Student and Nurse Network ambassador and Student Nurse Project curator. Following that, they interview Ellen Nicholson, registered adult and Queen's Nurse, and Chair of the Royal College of Nursing's General Practice Nursing Forum. Through both interviews, they hope to bust some myths surrounding general practice nursing. At the same time, highlighting that it is definitely a career option for newly registered nurses.

As you know, our podcast is unaffiliated. However, this episode focuses specifically on what the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) as the professional body of nursing is doing for its newly registered nurses.
Clare and Craig reveal some huge news. "Retaining the Passion" has been selected to present at the Healthcare Leadership Academy Conference 2020 alongside other global healthcare leaders after having their abstract for a poster presentation accepted. This honour is down to you our listeners and followers. We wouldn't be here without you, so thank you.
Together, Clare and Craig interview Dame Donna Kinnair, Chief Executive and General Secretary of the RCN. Next, they chat with Clare's RCN Newly Qualified Nurses Network co-lead, and student representative on the RCN Professional Nursing Committee, Kendal Moran. Then they finish up by talking to Dave Dawes, the newly elected Chair of RCN Council. In turn, Clare and Craig ask all three what more the College could be doing to support newly registered nurses.

Clare and Craig are both passionate advocates of global nursing and as student nurses were fortunate to experience international exchange placements to China and the United States, respectively.
While our podcast is unaffiliated to any trade union or professional body, due to the nature of our discussions and guests during this episode, we will be discussing the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) more so than we usually would. In November, the College will go through a consultation period as to whether they should rejoin the International Council of Nurses (ICN) or other potential global nursing alliances. For transparency, Craig is a member of the campaigning group, “We Are Global Nurses” recommending that the RCN rejoins the ICN, but Clare is not and is undecided.
This podcast episode is by no means a campaign episode for the RCN to rejoin the ICN; instead, we intend to give listeners and RCN members information, enabling them to make an informed choice.
Together, Clare and Craig interview Jeni Watts. A registered adult, children’s nurse and health visitor, who is one of the coordinators of “We Are Global Nurses”. Craig then interviews Howard Catton. A registered general nurse and Chief Executive Officer of the International Council of Nurses. Mentioning beforehand that Craig would be interviewing Howard, Craig asks Howard some tough questions from RCN members about the reasons why the RCN originally withdrew from the ICN and what it is they could gain from rejoining.
Together, Clare and Craig then reflect on these discussions. What we hope is that we leave our listeners with further information to make an informed decision, whatever that is. And to highlight just how important global nursing issues are.

Clare and Craig discuss their reasons for choosing the theme, "What's in a Name?". Also, the many names and titles nurses have. And why this can be confusing for both the public and the profession. Rachel Hollis, Chair of RCN Profession Nursing Committee, joins them, sharing her journey through nursing and thoughts on this episode's theme. Clare and Craig then reflect on this discussion and how they and others can move forward in their practice.

Clare and Craig discuss their reasons for choosing the theme, "Raising Your Voice", and why they think nurses should raise their voices. They are joined by guests, Jessica Sainsbury, a final year dual field adult and mental health nursing student and RCN Students' Committee chair, and BJ Waltho, a registered nurse and trained midwife, who is an Associate Director of Operations and Chair of RCN Congress. From different spectrums of their nursing careers, Jessica and BJ offer their advice on how to raise your voice. Clare and Craig then reflect on what they have learned and how they can take this forward in their practice.
