This episode almost nearly didn’t happen. A few short hours ago a couple of free tickets to Bestival were placed into my hands, talk about a jammy piece of luck! I’ve had to turn this episode out super quick at the last minute whilst frantically packing for a weekend of camping and festival shenanigans. It starts off on an old school house music vibe but by the end it’s properly chugging along.

There are a few choice cuts in there this week. ‘At Night’ by Shakedown is having a huge resurgence thanks to some excellent new remixes by Purple Disco Machine and Peggy Gou, I thought I’d throw in the Kid Creme mix which still sounds great today. There’s also the superb remix of ‘Show Me Love’ by Todd Edwards where he takes an all time classic tune and totally reworks it into something brilliant. Finally I also wanted to get the Hardfloor remix of ‘Blue Monday’ by New Order in there somewhere as it’s having a mini revival here in the U.K. thanks to a TV advert.

The heatwave continues here in the UK so I figured I would roll with it and kick things off with a summery house music vibe as per Episode 3 (check it out if you’ve not yet heard it). Episode 5 of the Retro House Mixtape is here! This week it’s a mix that kinda runs in ‘phases’. You’ve got a funky vocal led section at the start, then it drops into a UK Speed Garage kinda thing for a bit before getting a bit clubby and dropping a few big tunes towards the end.

This weeks mixtape starts off with a slower tempo than usual before diving into an uplifting slice of soulful house. As per Episode 1 there is another little exclusive thrown into the mix in the form of a ‘Incognito / Royksopp’ mash-up that works really well in the summer. Going into the final stretch it gets a little anthem-tastic plus there’s a lesser known gem from Fire Island (aka Heller and Farley).

Is it the weekend already? I guess it’s time for another episode of Retro House Mixtape. It’s a bit of a last minute effort this week. I had a whole other episode ready to go but the weather here in the U.K. has been so amazingly hot I felt it necessary to put together a mix to compliment it. I went back and recorded another mix consisting of tunes that sound great when blasted out in the sunshine. Hopefully it’ll hit the spot for you during this sunniest of spells.

Here it is! The first episode of the Retro House Mixtape. Every week I'll be digging through my vinyl collection for those 90's and early 00's house tracks that perhaps flew under the radar at the time or have been somewhat forgotten since they originally blew up in the clubs. Of course there will also be a few cheeky remixes of some outright classics thrown in for good measure (because I just can't help myself sometimes).

These will all then be bundled into a 60 minute DJ set that will be available to stream online. In this particular set you’ll find my ‘Finally/Sweet Harmony’ bootleg that I made a few years ago.
