RETRO MEDIA TALK

In Episode 45 of Retro Media Talk, the hosts embark on a chilling festive journey to revisit the 1974 horror cult classic Black Christmas, directed by Bob Clark (A Christmas Story/Porkys). December 20, 2024, marks the 50th anniversary of this iconic holiday horror classic.

In the quiet college town of Bedford, the holiday spirit takes a sinister turn when an uninvited guest sets his sights on the Pi Kappa Sigma sorority house. As the sisters prepare for Christmas break, their festivities are interrupted by a series of menacing and obscene phone calls. What begins as unsettling harassment quickly escalates into terror as a shadowy psychopath starts to close in, hiding in plain sight. With the local police racing against time to trace the calls, the horrifying truth emerges: this Christmas, no one is safe, and nothing is as it seems. Black Christmas weaves a chilling tale of suspense, mystery, and holiday horror that will leave you questioning who—or what—is lurking in the dark.

In Episode 37, the Retro Media Talk Podcast goes back to 1979 to talk about the cult classic gang film 'THE WARRIORS'.

The Warriors masterfully blends elements of pulp storytelling with surprisingly poetic imagery, creating an immensely enjoyable cinematic experience. Its plot carries a mythical purity, drawing inspiration from a legendary chapter in Greek history. The story unfolds as a charismatic gang leader is shot during a gathering in the Bronx, intended to unite all the gangs of New York City. The blame falls upon the Warriors, a group hailing from Coney Island, forcing them to embark on a treacherous journey back to their own territory. Along the way, they find themselves entangled in a series of escalating battles against vivid and improbable gangs, such as the Baseball Furies, donning baseball uniforms and sporting KISS-inspired face makeup. The film embraces a blend of pop existentialism, performances that straddle the line between wooden and overwrought, and the vibrant, kinetic film making prowess of director Walter Hill (known for his work in Southern Comfort and 48 Hrs.). The result is a delectable and surprisingly profound fusion of operatic cheesiness, leaving audiences captivated and touched in unexpected ways.
