  • Lum and Abner – Professor Slone’s Way. 420928
Grandpap reads tidbits from the almanac to Abner. Some how, grandpap thinks Abner knows the fat men who won a bicycle race. Lum reports that though it’s the first day of school, Prof. Sloane let the scholars out early.
Lum wants help studying up a way to make the teacher resign. Others in town love the new teacher, and want him to stay around. Lum may have a hard time of it. Maybe if they convince Prof. Sloane the school house is haunted.
The talk about ghosts gets even grandpap lured into the conversation to twist Lum’s words. What do ghosts, fat men, bicycle races, or hand ball have to do with anything? Everything… and nothing at all.

  • Little Orphan Annie – A Light In The Old Deserted House. ep1027, 1936
Audio starts well, but gets weak and staticky in the middle. Maybe it could use a drink of the sponsor product.
A letter tells how a weak, and sickly boy bounced back to health, and is a big, husky boy now. The sponsor product made him the picture of health.
Caesar’s father, Tony Renelli, was arrested for robbery, but Annie and Joe agonize that the honest family man is falsely accused. Is the evidence against Tony planted? It’s going to take more than just thinking he didn’t do it to clear Tony’s name.
Joe has been working the matter out, and thinks a stranger to town could be the real robber. Why is the stranger lingering around, and not fleeing the scene? Can Annie and Joe catch him in a trap?
As they explore an empty house, Sandy begins to whine. Is the house haunted? The dusty house only seems to contain cobwebs. No clues, and no ghosts. Leaping lizards, then why is there a light on in that old, empty house?

  • Vic and Sade – Gumpox’s Lodge Regalia. 430712.
Mr. Gumpox is innocently proceeding through his garbage route wearing an old lodge robe and plumme’ hat that was given to him by Ike Kneesuffer. This enrages Vic, who plans on stopping Gumpox, make him remove the regalia and ceremoniously bury a fish, per Volume 7 of the Lodge Library.
    Trivia:

    * Vic is so upset, he comes in the front door. We know that coming in the front door is something Sade does not allow. The blinding rage also makes him say, “Gumbage man Garpox.”
    * “Sarah” is the name Vic uses for Sade 11 different times in this episode.
    * Sade relays two previous where lodge regalia was worn inappropriately: Vic had asked Sade to “destroy” an old plumme’ lodge hat, which she simply took and put in the trash. Mr. Gumpox retrieved it and put it on Howard as a sun hat; Hank Gutstop once wore full lodge regalia when he worked as the official greeter at the Butler House Hotel.
    * Ruthie Stembottom was once so taken with the design of Vic’s Exhalted Big Dipper robe that she had patterned a dress out of it but Vic intervened to squash those plans.
    * Russell mentions a friend he played baseball with at Tatman’s vacant lot, Raymond Surrells, who noticed Russell had bloodied himself sliding into second base.

  • Lum and Abner – V Stands For Victory Homes. 420924
Lum isn’t the only one with troubles related to the arrival of the new school teacher. Cedric wants to run away. Abner even has his annoyances with the teacher. He had professor Sloane over for dinner and was bored to death by the long winded talking.
When Lum enters, the topic turns to matters more on the line of etiquette. What’s the proper way to greet somebody? Its all so confusing to Abner and Cedric as they do some polite role playing.
The role play touches on war time related topics. Scrap drives, rationing, buying bonds, and making every home a home bent on winning the war. Making every home a victory home, with victory gardens. Be patriotic, buy war bonds.

  • Democracy in America – The Aristocrats of Freedom. ep12, 620404
A study in American law and lawyers. The influence of lawyers in public life impressed our French travelers. Could it be due to the fact that they were lawyers themselves? They call lawyers the aristocracy in America. Not wealth, or any other institution. Their reason is that laws, and the lawyers who write them are what makes up the government. How is it accomplished that if the men in government office were to all be replaced, by voting, it wouldn’t impact the individual citizen?
Tour the nation’s capital to see the government at work. How do the laws control the operation of government, even allowing a representative who can’t read or write to hold office. How do the laws hold government in check, and keep things balanced?
Visit the president to learn what D’Toukfel and Beaumont think about the personality of Andrew Jackson. In speaking to a senator of the time, he compares politics to religion, and matters of faith. Sometimes its not logic, or doctrine, but personality, and just liking the man in office.
Politicians debate matters, even of a long dead horse who had been taken from its owners, and conscripted into military service in the Revolutionary War. Our Frenchmen note that laws are only affective, as long as the public respect the laws.

  • Lum and Abner – A Date With Professor Slone. 420923
In the Jot Em Down store, Lum tells Abner why he is wore to a frazzle. He spent several hours with the new school teacher last night. What he thought would be a date with a sweet young school mistress turned out to be an educational meeting with an old school master.
Has Lum obligated himself for another dinner on the town with the teacher to welcome him? Lum is so embarrassed over his mess, that he’s about ready to resign from the school board. He can’t stand another day of having to listen to Prof. Sloanes ideas on education.
All the while Abner laughs at his friend, and shields him from phone calls from the new teacher. The fun stops when Lum wants to recruit Abner to go along to dinner with him.

A description of a robber fits Caesar’s father, Tony, to a tee. Leaping lizards! People who know Tony know he wouldn’t do it, but others don’t feel that way. Can Annie and Joe help figure out who is trying to impersonate Tony?
Walter, a farm hand, is on their side, but the marshal has found more incriminating evidence. Has the missing, and empty pay envelopes found in Tony Renelli’s yard cinch the case?
Despite the theories of the kids, and the insistence on Tony’s honest character, the marshal has to do his duty. Evidence speaks louder than words or theories.
