  • The Beatles Help! Movie Review | The Nerd Files #092

#TheBeatles #Help #MovieReview The Beatles Help! Movie Review | The Nerd Files #092 THE NERD FILES #092: THE BEATLES HELP! MOVIE REVIEW  From 1965, The Beatles Help! Directed by Richard Lester.  Help! is a 1965 British musical comedy-adventure film directed by Richard Lester, starring the Beatles and featuring Leo McKern, Eleanor Bron, Victor Spinetti, John Bluthal, Roy Kinnear and Patrick Cargill. The second film starring the Beatles following Lester's A Hard Day's Night, Help! sees the group struggle to record their new album while trying to protect Starr from a sinister cult and a pair of mad scientists, all of whom are obsessed with obtaining one of his rings.[3] The soundtrack was released as an album, also called Help!  The film had its Royal World Premiere at the London Pavilion Theatre in the West End of London on 29 July 1965 in the presence of Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon and the Earl of Snowdon. While not reviewed at the time with the same high level of admiration as their first film, the film is now credited with influencing the development of music videos.

  • The Color Purple Movie Review

#TheColorPurple  The Color Purple Movie Review Special Guest EJ!    The Color Purple is a 1985 American coming-of-age period drama film directed by Steven Spielberg with a screenplay by Menno Meyjes, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1982 novel of the same name by Alice Walker. It was Spielberg's eighth film as a director, and marked a turning point in his career as it was a departure from the summer blockbusters for which he had become known. It was also the first feature film directed by Spielberg for which John Williams did not compose the music. The film stars Danny Glover, Whoopi Goldberg, Desreta Jackson, Margaret Avery, Oprah Winfrey, Rae Dawn Chong, Willard Pugh, and Adolph Caesar in one of his final film roles.[2][3]  Filmed in Anson and Union counties in North Carolina,[4] the film tells the story of a young African-American girl named Celie Harris and shows the problems African-American women faced during the early 20th century, including domestic violence, incest, pedophilia, poverty, racism, and sexism. Celie is transformed as she finds her self-worth through the help of two strong female companions.[5]  The film was a box office success, grossing $142 million against a budget of $15 million. The film received positive reviews from critics, receiving praise for its acting, direction, screenplay, musical score, and production values; but it was also criticized by some critics for being "over-sentimental" and "stereotypical". The film was nominated for eleven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Goldberg, Best Supporting Actress for both Avery and Winfrey, and Best Adapted Screenplay, without winning any; it also received four Golden Globe Award nominations, with Whoopi Goldberg winning Best Actress in a Drama. Steven Spielberg did not receive an Academy Award nomination for his directing, but did receive a Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement, and a Golden Globe nomination. The film was later included in Roger Ebert's book series The Great Movies.     Daniel Polidoro @PoliPictures Tyler Pacholski @Tyler_Pacholski Like FriendsbyFilm on FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/FriendsByFilm

  • Rewind Wednesday: The Rock Movie Review

The Rock Movie Review   The Rock is a 1996 American action thriller film directed by Michael  Bay, produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, and written by David  Weisberg and Douglas S. Cook. The film stars Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage  and Ed Harris, with William Forsythe and Michael Biehn co-starring. It  is dedicated to Simpson,[3] who died five months before its release. The  film received mixed reviews from critics, but it was nominated for Best  Sound at the 69th Academy Awards, it earned box-office receipts of over  $335 million against a production budget of $75 million, and was the  fourth highest-grossing film of 1996.  In the film, the Pentagon assigns a team comprising an FBI chemist and a  former SAS captain with a team of SEALs to break into Alcatraz, where a  group of rogue US Force Recon Marines have seized all the tourists on  the Island and have threatened to launch nerve gas filled rockets upon  San Francisco unless Washington pays $100 million to the next-of-kin of  eighty three killed while under their command on missions denied ever to  have existed by the Pentagon.
