Enigmatic, secretive, loudmouth, genius, egotistical maniac... this episode's artist had been called everything in the book, but he never let it stop him from reaching for the stars, whether that be lyrically dense verses, old timey gospel, stadium sing alongs, or moody synthpop. And though we could spend hours dissecting his many controversial statements and actions, today we're staying true to the music as we dive into the diverse, and ever exciting catalog of Kanye West.

Christmas songs always seem to invoke intense reactions. Some people love ‘em, some people hate ‘em. Personally, I love Christmas songs but I get burnt out hearing the same old Wham! and Mariah Carey songs year after year. We put together a playlist of songs that aren’t so worn out. From lesser known cuts by artists like Paul Simon and Vulfpeck, to classics reworked by Smokey Robinson and Otis Redding, and a few songs you’ll probably recognize from Elton John and Willie Nelson, we hope you enjoy these songs as much as we do and we wish you a safe and happy 2020 holiday.

Sturgill Simpson is one of the most enigmatic voices in today's country scene.
Refusing to be pigeonholed to a genre he's released Honky Tonk, Cosmic Country, Country Soul, Rock n Roll, and Blue Grass albums.
Hailed as one of the hero's of the current Nashville Revival, Simpson has charted a course that is uniquely his and is fighting to wrestle country music back from
the bland and uninspired Arena Country Pop music that has dominated the genre over the last decade.
Join Brendan and I as we discuss his journey and the changing direction of his discography. As always, playlists containing all the songs featured on this episode are linked to at revealingtherecords.com
Sturgill Simpson released his first album in 2013 to little fanfare. His second album, released in 2104, was nominated for a Best Americana Album Grammy and his third album nabbed a Best Country Album Grammy in 2017/
He's drawn comparisons to Waylon Jennings and the Outlaw Country genre while incorporating far ranging influences into his music ranging from Snoop Dogg, The Cars, and Otis Redding.
He just released his 5th album, Cuttin' Grass, consisting of bluegrass renditions of his earlier songs.

Oasis was formed in Manchester, England in 1991. Their debut album, Definitely Maybe, became the fastest selling debut album at the time in the UK. Their sophomore album, (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, spawned huge singles such as Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, and Champagne Supernova. They became one of the biggest bands in the world at the time, however they're popularity began to wane in the late 90's and they were never able to recapture the magic of their first two albums. They continued making music and tabloid headlines until their eventual break up in 2009.

STAX Records is an American record label, originally based in Memphis, Tennessee. Founded in 1957 as Satellite Records, the label changed its name to STAX Records in 1961. STAX was influential in the creation of Southern soul and Memphis soul music. STAX also released gospel, funk, and blues recordings.
It featured several popular ethnically integrated bands (including the label's house band, Booker T. & the M.G.'s) and a racially integrated team of staff and artists unprecedented in that time of racial strife and tension in Memphis and the South.

Otis Redding is considered one of the greatest singers in the history of American popular music and a seminal artist in soul music and rhythm and blues. Redding's style of singing gained inspiration from the gospel music that preceded the genre. His singing style influenced many other soul artists of the 1960s.
Redding received many posthumous accolades, including two Grammy Awards, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In addition to "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay," "Respect" and "Try a Little Tenderness" are among his best-known songs.
