A sorcerer named Simon was practicing magic in the city of Samaria where Philip was preaching. Simon claimed to be someone great, but meanwhile was completely amazed at the signs and miracles that Philip was performing in Jesus’s name. He himself even was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, also known as baptized with water.

When Simon saw that Peter and John came to the city so that they could impart the Holy Spirit through the laying on of their hands, he offered them money. What was he offering them money for?
