In the previous two episodes on Melchizedek (1a, 1b) we covered the Old Testament data on this enigmatic figure. Jewish writers and readers in the Second Temple Period (ca. 500 BC – 70 AD) naturally had ideas on who Melchizedek was and how to understand him as a king-priest. This episode discusses important texts from the Second Temple Period that deal with Melchizedek. Primary attention is placed on texts that case Melchizedek as more than a man, in effect the divine messianic deliverer of Israel in the last days. These texts and the thinking behind them set the stage ...

"What, then, is the Singularity? It's a future period during which the pace of technological change will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that human life will be irreversibly transformed."—Ray Kurzweil We are joined by Joshua Wisley of the excellent new Eschaton podcast for a fascinating and wide-ranging discussion on his work and on the subject of the Technological Singularity in relation to Biblical prophecy. "Joshua Wisley is the host of Eschaton, a new podcast that explores ancient wisdom and spiritual mysteries through the lens of the modern world and attempts to offer fresh insight into age-old questions. The self-prescribed mission of the show is to turn conventional understanding and popular teachings on their head whenever it becomes necessary to do so. The show also provides its own unique spin on some of the other pressing issues of our time, such as geopolitics, supernatural encounters, and modern religious practices. Joshua holds degrees from Cairn University and Villanova University, where he studied comparative religion, philosophy, and business management (respectively). He lives in the northeastern region of the United States with his wife and two children."—J. Wisley (For show notes please visit http://themindrenewed.com)

Your view of agreeing or disagreeing with a pretrib imminent rapture matters. I explained that there are implications to holding to imminence theology. Melchizedek is one of the more enigmatic figures in the Bible. Mentioned in only two passages in the Old Testament (Gen 14:17-24; Psalm 110), he nevertheless drew a lot of attention during the Second Temple Period and the New Testament. Thousands of pages of scholarly research have been devoted to him. Nearly everything said about him produces interpretive problems, from the nature of his name, to its meaning, to his identity as a Canaanite (non-Israelite), to why Psalm 110 favors his priesthood about that of Aaron. This episode of the podcast finishes our discussion of the Old Testament material ...

I talked about a deep-seated pretrib assumption that identifies the truth that the rapture occurs before the day of the Lord with the pretribulational rapture itself. It is not the same thing. The problem as I pointed out in this episode is that prewrath also believes that the rapture occurs before the day of the […] Related Posts: The Greek Noun Apostasia Never Means a… Do NOT Read Back 16th Century English Translations… The Greek Noun Apostasia Never Means a… The post How Would It Prove Pretrib If APOSTASIA Refers to the Rapture? – Ep. 89 appeared first on ALAN E.
