All too often, people serve and sacrifice for Jesus with the motive of getting a reward from God.  This, Pastor John teaches today, is the wrong attitude.  You can’t serve God and ask, “now what will I get for this.”  God warns his followers against this entitled, greedy motive.  Yes, you’ll receive abundant rewards in Heaven and sometimes on earth, but that shouldn’t be why you serve him.  Instead, serve him because he is God.  Serve him because he’s blessed you with his grace and future salvation out of love and thankfulness.

The bible says that when you ask God for something, it’ll be given to you; when you seek, you will find it, and when you knock, the door will be opened.  Some have interpreted this as a means to get everything you want.  However, as Pastor John teaches today, when you pray for God’s will above your own, for his glory to be shown, and for your ultimate good, he delights to answer those prayers.  Prayer isn’t about getting what you want but about becoming the kind of person God wants you to be.
