Since the fall of mankind into sin, we’ve been without hope of salvation on our own.  Everyone is sinful and condemned to eternity, separated from God. Except God didn’t want to be separated from His creation. So, in His holy justice and His deep love for all people, He made a way for sinful man to be made clean and acceptable and sinless. Today, Pastor John will explain how God made a way to be forgiven through Jesus on the cross for all who believe. God saved man, in His grace, through our faith.

The Jews were God’s special, chosen people. God revealed Himself to them and wanted the world to know about Him through them. When asked, “are you a Christian” many will say, “I’ve been baptized,” or “I go to church every week.” Yet, as Pastor John will teach you today, none of these actions will save you. None of them mean you’re a Christian. The Jews obeyed the law outwardly. They were strict in their religion. Yet, because they didn’t believe in Christ and the saving power of the gospel, they were not saved. So when you think about if you’re a Christian, evaluate if you’ve placed your faith in Christ. That’s the only thing that matters.

If you’re a guilty criminal before a judge, there’s always a chance you’ll be found not guilty. Yet, imagine if you go before a judge that’s all-knowing and all-seeing. Wonder if that judge knew your heart and intentions too. You’d be found guilty! Today Pastor John will explain how everyone will one day go before God, the judge who sees all your sin. Yet, because of His love and goodness, Jesus died to take your guilty verdict. If you have faith in that, you’re found not guilty before God, the judge.

Those who feel they’re moral and good people are quick to see and point out sin in someone else while ignoring their own sin. It’s easy to see sin in others. But it’s a lot harder to see sin in yourself. It’s hard to admit you’re a sinner.  Today, Pastor John will explain how God will judge the sin of everyone, even the good, moral person. This person won’t get a pass just because they are only little sins while others sin big, evil sins. Everyone sins and deserves God’s wrath. Our world is so divided today concerning sexuality and marriage. Plenty of arguments are used as fuel to the flame of hatred and division, including from believers of Christ. Today, Pastor John will challenge you to recognize that all have sinned and need forgiveness. All have sinned! God hates sin, including sexual sin. He also hates greed, gossip, and murder. But God loves sinners, including homosexuals, and longs for all to turn away from sin and turn to Him in faith for mercy.

Imagine you have cancer. If your doctor saw it and were afraid to tell you so he didn’t make you sad or upset, that’d be awful! That could kill you if you ignore it. Today, Pastor John will explain that the sin inside of everyone brings death and eternal separation from God. But if you never heard about it, were never told sin was bad, you’ll die never knowing a cure was available for that! In order to fully understand God’s gift of salvation, you must understand your wretched condition without forgiveness.

Most kids will push against restrictions and wish they had no rules. Adults are this way too. Some think that life will be better and easier if they can live how they want and give up obeying all of God’s rules. Yet, as Pastor John teaches today, the absolute best place to be is right in the middle of God’s will. When you follow God closely, walking with him obediently, you’ll experience the good life God has for you. In fact, getting what you want in this world is the worst thing that can happen.
