    Superfans: Karen and Caitlin

Caitlin is continuing her Halloween tradition of watching The Nightmare Before Christmas. Karen tells a take of her poor broken headphones and gets really excited when talking about her new bleeding skull candle.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 4, episode 18, "Where the Wild Things Are":
    -Synopsis
-Caitlin is not necessarily a fan of this episode.
-It has a writer in common with "Beer Bad"
    -Newbie thoughts on this episode.
-The couple that slays together stays together.
-House of horrors... and sexual satisfaction. *Awkward*

-Mitch has a lot of thoughts and feelings about Tara's style and makeup.
-Anya freaks out about skipping a night of sex. Xander just thinks there's more to a relationship than sex.
-Bravo to character growth for Xander.
-Mitch is definitely team Xanya. *obligatory Tyra Banks/America's Next Top Model reference*
-Anya is really good for Xander. She's provoking growth. We love this.
    -Spike and Anya bonding time.
-Adam was in this episode... in case you forgot.

Angel season 1, episode 18, "Five by Five":
    -Synopsis
-Ugh Darla, but yay for finally seeing the pivotal moment where Angelus becomes Angel.
-Angel's transition from soulless to soulful compliments Faith's storyline really beautifully here.
-Cordelia: Is she growing or is this just a need for comedic relief?
-Wolfram and Hart hire Faith. Was her heart really in killing Angel?
-LOVE that line up shot when Angel Investigations team sees Faith for the first time.
-Angel plays lawyer. Muah ha ha ha.
-Cordelia needs to pull a Stranger Things and use Christmas lights to communicate better with Dennis. He really is trying to help most of the time.
    -Faith and Wesley.
-There was a moment in this scene where Wesley could have turned a lot of things around for Faith a lot earlier.
-Faith makes everything personal. She wants the same personal connections that everyone has with Buffy, but she's never been able to get them.
    -Lots of final scene thoughts.

    Superfans: Selina and Caitlin
    Newbies: Brittany and Ariana

    Fun Facts:
Caitlin bought an Angel Funko to go with her Buffy Funko and her ship now lives on forever in her heart and on her shelf. The final presidential debate spoiled an episode of Angel. Ariana believes that Angel and Buffy dates IRL for a hot second. Selina's fun fact is that she does not believe this relationship happened.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 4, episode 17, "Superstar":
    -Jonathan centric episode!
-What was going on with this episode? Were we confused?
-Danny Strong is a gem and were so glad Buffy realized this
-The season 4 stigma prevents some superfans from rewatching this epic episode!
-The newbies weigh in on what they think of season 4
-Is Buffy really getting meta by throwing the show off balance to reflect the college experience? 0_o
-Did you really think that Jonathan would kill Buffy?
-As long as parallel universes have a purpose they're okay
-"Magic always comes with a cost"
    -Was Jonathan actually the monster?
-Your "worst nightmare" monster title is not something you can throw around after seeing gentlemen
-What is going on with Tara? (Not just her clothes, but also her clothes)
-Anya fits in much more than Tara
-But maybe we just need to give Tara some time to grow
-Tara is a bit like Jonathan trying to find her way into the group
-What if this episode was actually about Tara and not Jonathan?
-Brittany finally feels included in Buffy just like Jonathan!
    -Plus, more information about Adam!

Angel season 1, episode 17, "Eternity":
    -ANGELUS, ANGELUS, ANGELUS
-But first let's talk about Tim Mineur (writer, producer)
-Joss added the element of Angel going bad instead of focusing on the "victim of the week"
-Angel is great at putting the focus on Wesley, Angel, and Cordelia
-There is a line drawn between Angel and Buffy in the maturity of their characters
-The show is about Angel's redemption, but it is not all about saving people
-Maybe Angel can actually be about him becoming okay with more human
-Was Angelus' return too early? Or was it so wonderful?
-Wesely saw Angelus for the first time!
-Ok it wasn't a full turn, but still...
    -How could Rebecca fool Angel?
-Cordelia amazes Angel because she is just not sad and she has every reason to be sad
-We have no idea when, how, or where Angelus should be introduced

  • Episode #183: 'Angel' 1x15 and 1x16 - Frustrating Vampire Rules
Join us as we discuss Angel season 1, episode 15, "The Prodigal," and episode 16, "The Ring."

    Superfans: Karen and Natalie
    Newbies: Brittany and Kristen

    Fun Facts:
Kristen has powered through watching Bones, 10 SEASONS WORTH, and Angel now looks really young. Brittany started a new job is not a MINER anymore. Nat is celebrating her one year job anniversary! Natalie did not notice the boys of Supernatural age over her binge-watching. Karen has recorded four podcasts with Natalie this weekend and still has two more to go!

Angel season 1, episode 15, "The Prodigal"
-Why doesn't Angel go by Liam?
-Angel is a constant reminder of his actions as Angelus, but also his sister's death
-The show mirrors the conversation we had on Twitter about Angel being a common Latino name
-Darla is back and everyone still doesn't like her
    -Darla-Angel-Dru-Spike Family Forever
-Which bothers Angel more-- Liam's past or Angelus' past?
-How do we feel about the flashbacks to Liam?
-Kate and Angel: What is going on?
-The episode seems a little fragmented with Kate and Angel butting heads
-Think back to Cordelia getting used to demons, it's time for Kate to get with the program
-Security systems are no match for demons
    -Faith? No Faith
-Angel watches Kate's dad die and it was so frustrating to see that stupid vampire rule work against us
-Angel is definitely the group dad
-Cordelia could go back to Buffy and whip everyone into shape
-Angel needs Cordelia around to keep him from the darkness

    -Demon Dating Database, sorry books
-Did we see the bad guy's red flags from the start?
-Superfans sometimes come at the episodes with a blank slate
-Angel being thrust into the middle of the situation really shows the best parts of his character
-The humans are the bad guys, even though some of them demons by nature are awful
-Umm, maybe they should have kept some of the demons captive
-The makeup was SO ON POINT
-Also, there are so, so many demons
-What is going on with Wesley?
-Wesley is working on finding his footing as a character
-Is the pace of Angel to slow? Can they burn through story faster?

-Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 4, episode 17, "Superstar" - Buffy has Molly Shannon on to promote her movie, or karaoke!

  • Episode #182: 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' 4x15 and 4x16 - Demon Jesus
Join us as we discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 4, episode 15, "This Year's Girl," and episode 16, "Who Are You?"

    Superfans: Selina and Caitlin
    Newbies: Mitch and Kristen

    Fun Facts:

Kristen celebrated her birthday this week and watched Ghostbusters: Answer the Call with her family. Mitch saw the new Blair Witch movie and doesn't recommend it unless you're watching it by yourself in the theater. Caitlin and her puppy, Gage, are still settling in after meeting with the Animal Behaviorist this week. And Selina is overwhelmed by all the good stuff on TV this season, but is following The Good Place quite faithfully and will be reviewing Netflix's The Crown.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 4, episode 15, "This Year’s Girl", and episode 16, "Who Are You?":
-Mitch is still shipping Fuffy while Kristen completely forgot about Faith. Whoops.
-There's definitely an "out of sight, out of mind" thing going on with some periphery characters.
-All the applause to Sarah Michele Gellar and Eliza Dushku on portraying each other.
-Faith is still struggling with who she is, and this episode puts that front and center in our first Faith-centric episode in quite a while.
-Is Faith ultimately just looking for connection in her life?
-We get into the Buffy-the-character discussion again because there's just so much to think about after seeing Buffy through Faith's eyes.
-Faith has some interesting coma-dreams. While she's the good gal in those dreams, she's not the kickass Faith we have seen in her waking life.
-Faith is definitely a villain, but that's mostly because we're on Buffy's side, and Faith has been working against Buffy.
-We talk a lot about reluctant heroes, but Faith is sort of a reluctant villain.
-Buffy is specifically not talking about Angel to Riley. Thoughts?
-The body swap trope: We're all fans. It's definitely integral to Faith's development.
-That Spike/BFaith interaction was intense. Spike likes dominant ladies.
-We have a lot of Tara/ Willow thoughts. A LOT.
-Should Buffy be mad at Riley for sleeping with BFaith and not knowing Buffy wasn't truly there?
-What is up with the Watcher's Council? What exactly is there purpose without a slayer to watch?
-Some quick appreciation for the Giles/Xander/Spike scene in the alley.

    -MORE NEW POLL RESULTS!
-We have one listener who feels grateful she got to watch Avatar: The Last Airbender when it first aired. She also discovered this Buffy/Angel treat on Ebay.

-Another regular listener feels torn over who to vote for in the poll. We know it's hard. Thanks for playing!
-Pro-tip for newbies! There's a Chrome extension called Flix Plus that blurs episode titles and descriptions on Netflix.
-Angel is a very common name in Latino culture, which is good to know following the discussion of his name in our last episode.
-A comment on Hypable has us wondering if this crazy, fun theory could be true! Is there something more to Tara than meets the eye?
-One more treat folks. Mark Blucas, known to us as Riley, did in fact play Fred from Scooby-Doo in a live-action context. Feel free to check out the bit from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, but be aware of the Kevin Smith factor. This clip contains strong language and/or a drug reference or two.

    Mitch's Musings:

Kristen chimes in with the only reference to the word prodigal that she knows as a possible clue to the storyline for The Prodigal, and Mitch has a lot of horror movie/jewelry thoughts for The Ring.

-Someone was distracted by All the Small Things in 'Something Blue'
-Was the plot of Cursed Child just an idea stolen from Angel 1x08, "I Will Remember You"? The world may never know.

-Angel 1x11 "Somnambulist" -- It's either the sound of an ambulance or someone is sleep walking. We hope it's Angel. Does he sleep? Have we covered that yet?
