Today we are sitting down with Polish author, Anna Maziuk. Beginning in 2014, Anna dedicated her life to telling the story of Poland’s wolves through a human lens. In the following six years, she met with biologists and various stakeholder groups to write her book, Instynkt, About wolves in Polish forests. Anna and I have a wonderful time exploring her childhood growing up in Poland’s forests, why she went into journalism, the moment she became hooked on wolves, the past, present and future of wolves in Poland, and what it was like for her to sit down and interview people with opposite views than her.

Today’s guest not only designs fashionable outdoor shoes, but he’s also created a brand whose core value is doing the right thing for the planet and for communities of all income levels. In this episode, I’m sitting down with Rommel Vega, CEO of HOLO Footwear. Rommel and I have such a fun time sharing our love of wine, his journey through design and when he decided to become a fashion shoe designer, his career at top shoe companies like Puma, Merrell, and Keen, why he and other visionaries decided to strike out on their own and create HOLO Footwear, how shoes are made, what makes HOLO’s shoes truly sustainable, the struggles of launching a startup, and his hopes for the future.

In this episode, I am sitting down with Michelle LaRue, PhD, Spatial Ecologist and Associate Professor of Antarctic Marine Science at the University of Canterbury. Michelle and I discuss what inspired her to pursue a career in wildlife conservation as a young girl, and then spend a good amount of time exploring possible cougar habitat in the Midwestern United States. To take us on a global carnivore tour, today we are sitting down with Miha Krofel, PhD, Head of Wildlife Ecology and Management Research Group at the University of Ljubljana, and a member of the IUCN’s Cat Specialist Group, Canid Specialist Group, and Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe. Miha and I discuss Eurasian lynx, brown bears, and Golden jackals in Slovenia. We then hop across the globe and chat about lions, cheetahs, and leopards in Namibia. Following, we take another oceanic leap and learn about snow leopards and Pallas’ cats in Mongolia. We wrap the conversation with a nice pretty bow and talk about carnivore coexistence on a higher scale, and explore the ups and downs of Miha’s career.
