What happens when the birth you've prepared for takes an unexpected turn?
In this powerful episode of Rewire for Birth, Dr. Cindy Tahhan welcomes Crystal Lee and midwife Fadwah Halaby of Midwife360 to share the remarkable story of Crystal's third home birth—this time, welcoming twins.
Having experienced two previous home births, Crystal approached her twin pregnancy with intention. She prioritized nutrition, rest, preparation, and building a birth team she could trust.
But even with preparation, birth can unfold in unexpected ways.
Crystal and Fadwah take us inside the intense moments of this birth, including two breech extractions, an umbilical cord prolapse, concerns about the babies' well-being, and the decisions made as events unfolded.
Together, they reflect on the importance of skilled support, communication, trust, and adapting when birth doesn't follow the original plan.
How Crystal approached her third home birth differently after learning she was expecting twins.
The role of nutrition, rest, and emotional preparation during pregnancy.
Why choosing the right birth team made such a difference.
What happened when both babies presented breech.
The unexpected complications and decisions that shaped the birth.
Fadwah's perspective on supporting Crystal through critical moments.
The emotional experience of welcoming twins after such an intense labor.
Why preparation and flexibility can exist together.
This episode is a reminder that birth is deeply personal and unpredictable. Crystal's story highlights the value of informed decisions, individualized care, and a trusted team equipped to respond when circumstances change.
It's also a moving reflection on the strength and vulnerability that can coexist in birth.

This episode shares one family's birth experience and is not a substitute for individualized medical guidance. Twin and breech births can involve significant risks, and decisions about birth setting and care should be made with appropriately qualified maternity professionals.

What happens to the birth partner when birth doesn't go as planned?
In this powerful conversation, we sit down with Tiago Kunzendorff, a father of three, to explore an often-overlooked part of the birth experience: what happens to the father or birth partner when they witness a traumatic birth.
Tiago shares the story of his first child's birth in 2004, which quickly became an emergency C-section.
He describes feeling completely powerless, disconnected, and unsure of what he was supposed to do while watching his wife go through an intense medical emergency.
For years, he told the story as an incredible and somewhat shocking birth story—but he hadn't fully explored how the experience affected him.
This conversation opens the door to a different question:
What happens to the father when he witnesses birth trauma?
Tiago shares what it felt like to be treated as a supporting character, to feel like he was in the way, and to suddenly find himself standing in an operating room surrounded by doctors, blood, medical equipment, and uncertainty.
He also shares the emotional aftermath of his second child's birth, when his son experienced complications and spent time in the NICU.
Through these experiences, Tiago began to understand how much birth can imprint not only the mother, but the entire family.
In this episode, we explore:
The often-overlooked experience of fathers during birth
Why birth partners can experience feelings of helplessness and powerlessness
Why traditional prenatal education may not prepare birth partners for the reality of birth
Tiago’s experience witnessing an emergency C-section
The emotional impact of watching someone you love experience a medical emergency
The difference between witnessing an experience and experiencing its emotional impact
The importance of including fathers and birth partners in birth preparation
The emotional aftermath of an emergency birth
Tiago’s experience when his son required NICU care
The isolation fathers can experience while trying to stay strong
The importance of talking about difficult birth experiences
Why families benefit when both parents are educated and supported
How partners can become more involved in the birth experience
The importance of discussing what kind of birth experience you want to share
Why helplessness doesn't have to be the default experience for birth partners
Preparing not only for birth, but for the unexpected
One of the most important messages from this conversation is that birth affects more than the person giving birth.
The mother deserves support, education, safety, and empowerment.
And the father or birth partner deserves preparation, education, inclusion, and support too.
Because when the whole family is prepared and supported, everyone has more opportunity to participate in the experience rather than simply react to it.
Your birth matters.
Your partner’s experience matters.
And the way you enter parenthood together matters.

In this deeply personal conversation, I sit down with Rhowena Adolfo Patel to explore what it really means to prepare for motherhood—physically, emotionally, mentally, energetically, and intuitively.
Save $50 on her Mama Care Program here:
https://www.mamacarecoach.com/mama-care-course-x-rewire-for-birth
Rhowena shares openly about moving through a season of profound depletion, closing her business, facing personal challenges, and realizing that she couldn’t rebuild alone. Receiving support from multiple practitioners became part of her preparation for welcoming another baby—and opened the door to a deeper conversation about what women truly need before, during, and after pregnancy.
From there, we venture into the less tangible side of motherhood.
Rhowena shares her experiences with intuition, dreams, spirit babies, and the ways she felt connected to her children even before conception. Whether or not you’ve had experiences like these yourself, this conversation invites you to consider what becomes possible when we make space for curiosity rather than needing to have every experience explained.
We also have an important and vulnerable conversation about maternal mental health and intrusive thoughts during pregnancy. Rhowena shares what it was like to experience frightening thoughts and how learning to observe them, rather than immediately identifying with them, changed her relationship with them.
Most importantly, this conversation is a reminder that mothers are not meant to do this alone.
What you’ll take away from this episode:
• Why preparing for motherhood starts long before birth—and why your physical, emotional, mental, and energetic wellbeing matters
• Why building your support system before pregnancy and postpartum can change the way you move through motherhood
• How to cultivate a deeper relationship with your intuition and become more curious about what your body, mind, and inner knowing are communicating
• What Rhowena learned from navigating intrusive thoughts during pregnancy, and why getting support matters
• Why postpartum isn’t a time to “bounce back,” but a profound period of recovery, integration, and transformation
• How preparing for birth can also mean preparing for the identity shift of becoming a mother
One of the ideas we return to in this conversation is:
You can’t fear and receive at the same time.
What might become possible if, instead of trying to control every unknown, you created more room for curiosity, trust, support, and possibility?
That is part of the deeper work of Rewire for Birth.
Because birth preparation isn’t only about knowing what might happen.
It’s about preparing you to meet what happens.
To stay connected to your body when things feel unfamiliar.
To recognize when you need support.
To listen to your intuition while also making informed decisions.
And to enter motherhood with the understanding that you are not meant to do it all alone.
If you’re preparing for pregnancy, pregnant now, thinking about birth, or simply feeling the stirrings of the woman you’re becoming, this conversation offers a beautiful invitation to begin preparing from the inside out.
Your birth matters.
Your transition into motherhood matters.
And so does the woman you’re becoming along the way.

You can know everything about birth and still not feel prepared to be inside of it.
Rewire for Birth bridges that gap through education, nervous-system preparation, somatic tools, and self-advocacy—so when birth asks something of you, you have the capacity to meet the moment, pivot with intention, listen to your true self, ask questions, and use your voice.

What if being prepared for birth isn't about knowing exactly what will happen—but knowing how to think, question, and advocate for yourself when it does?
In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Nathan Riley, OBGYN, alongside Midwife360 founder Fadwah Halaby, for a fascinating conversation that will invite you to look at birth—and the maternity care system surrounding it—through a different lens.
Nathan shares how he went from traditional obstetric training to questioning many of the practices he had been taught to accept as routine.
His journey led him to learn from midwives, witness home and vaginal breech births, and reconsider what it actually means to support physiological birth rather than manage it.
And throughout this conversation, we return again and again to one powerful question:
Why are we doing this?
If you're preparing for birth, this episode will help you:
• Ask better questions about your care rather than assuming that “routine” automatically means necessary for you.
• Understand interventions with greater nuance so you can have more informed conversations about induction, cervical exams, C-sections, breech birth, and other decisions that may arise.
• See birth through a different lens—including what can happen when providers create space for physiology rather than automatically stepping in to manage it.
• Feel more permission to participate in your own care by staying curious, understanding your options, and recognizing that expertise and your own voice can coexist.
• Think differently about birth preparation itself—because preparing for birth isn't just about collecting information. It's about developing the capacity to stay connected to yourself when you're actually in the experience.
One of the most important ideas in this conversation is that good care doesn't require having all the answers.
Sometimes, humility matters just as much as expertise.
And supporting birth doesn't always mean doing more.
For me, that's also where this conversation connects so deeply to Rewire for Birth.
Because knowing what questions to ask is one thing.
Feeling grounded and confident enough to ask them when you're in the room is another.
Rewire for Birth helps you prepare for that moment—so instead of trying to memorize the “right” way to give birth, you build the knowledge, nervous-system capacity, self-trust, and advocacy skills to navigate your birth as it unfolds.
Rewire your mind. Reclaim your birth.

But how many of us are taught how to prepare for becoming a mother?
In this deeply moving conversation, I sit down with postpartum care practitioner Videlina Deneva to explore the forgotten wisdom of postpartum healing, and why the way we care for mothers has the power to shape families for generations.
Together, we unpack ancient postpartum traditions, the neuroscience of matrescence, and why postpartum care isn't a luxury, it's one of the greatest investments we can make in the health of mothers, babies, and future generations.
This conversation is an invitation to rethink what postpartum care truly means and to recognize that when we nurture mothers, we create lasting change that extends far beyond a single family.
Inside this episode, we explore:
• Why postpartum healing has been lost in modern motherhood, and why it matters
• The science of matrescence and how motherhood literally changes the brain
• The ancient Closing the Bones ceremony and why it's making a powerful return
• The five pillars every mother needs to recover physically, emotionally, and spiritually
• How nervous system regulation shapes postpartum healing
• Why receiving support is one of the healthiest things a new mother can do
• How healing ourselves changes the way we parent, and impacts future generations
• Why postpartum care isn't a luxury, it should be the standard
Motherhood was never meant to be experienced alone.
When we nourish mothers, we don't just change one woman's postpartum experience, we change families, communities, and generations to come.
This conversation is an invitation to remember what mothers have always deserved: to be held as they learn to hold new life.
Sometimes the greatest gift we can give a family is simply caring for the person who gave life.

What happens when the evidence meets a mother’s intuition?
In this episode, I sat down with Rivka Levin and Midwife360 founder Fadwah Halaby for an inspiring conversation about trusting the body, navigating a twin pregnancy with confidence, and what became a beautiful home birth experience.
When Rivka first discovered she was expecting twins, she assumed her dream of a home birth was no longer possible. But through education, informed decision-making, unwavering support, and deep trust in her intuition, she discovered there were more possibilities than she had been led to believe.
Together, we explore the mindset shifts, preparation, challenges, and incredible teamwork that supported the safe home birth of Rivka's twins, while also discussing the importance of individualized care, informed consent, and honoring the unique needs of every mother and baby.
This episode is a beautiful reminder that birth is not about fear—it's about preparation, trust, surrender and understanding what your options actually are in your unique situation.
Inside this episode, we explore:
• Rivka's emotional journey after discovering she was pregnant with twins
• Why she initially believed a home birth was no longer possible
• Learning to trust intuition throughout pregnancy

More than anything, this episode is a reminder that every birth journey is unique, and when women are supported, informed, and connected to their intuition, incredible things are possible.
Sometimes the greatest transformation begins with simply believing in your own body.

In this episode, I sit down with Jenna McClelland for a deeply courageous and thought-provoking conversation about feminine power, the wounded & fractured masculine, sexual reclamation, circumcision, motherhood, healing, and the sacred responsibility we have to future generations.
Jenna shares the personal journey that led her to dedicate her life to advocating for the protection of children and raising awareness around circumcision. What began as a profound spiritual awakening eventually became a mission that would challenge cultural norms, question long-held beliefs, and invite deeper conversations about bodily autonomy, healing, and human connection.
Together, we explore the relationship between feminine and masculine energy, the impact of shame and conditioning, and how healing often begins when we are willing to question what we've always accepted as normal.
This conversation is powerful, emotional, and deeply eye-opening.

In this episode, I sit down with Jerusha Hull for a deeply validating and necessary conversation about the fourth trimester — the first three months after birth that so many women are completely unprepared for.
We explore what really happens in the postpartum period, from the physical and hormonal shifts to the emotional and identity changes that come with becoming a mother.
Jerusha beautifully breaks down the concept of the “fourth trimester” and why this season is not just about caring for a newborn — but also about navigating a profound transition within yourself. From sleep deprivation to learning an entirely new role, this phase can feel layered, overwhelming, and deeply misunderstood.
Inside this episode, we explore:
Why the postpartum period is one of the biggest transitions a woman can experience
What really happens hormonally after birth and how it impacts emotions and mental health
The role oxytocin plays in bonding, anxiety, and hyper-vigilance
Why intrusive thoughts are common in early motherhood and how understanding them can reduce fear and shame
The difference between baby blues and postpartum depression — including timelines and signs to look out for
How postpartum mental health challenges often go unseen or misunderstood
The concept of a “web of care” and the four types of support every mother needs
Why trying to do motherhood alone is not strength — but risk
How to intentionally build support systems before birth
The mental load of motherhood and the pressure women feel to “do it all”
Why perfectionism and rigidity can make postpartum more difficult
The importance of flexibility, adaptability, and self-compassion during this season
How relationships and partnerships often shift after having a baby
Simple ways couples can stay connected during postpartum
Why birth experiences can deeply impact postpartum healing
The importance of processing your birth story and seeking support after difficult experiences

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Ellora Pollard for a deeply empowering conversation about fertility, hormones, cycle awareness, and why ovulation is one of the clearest indicators of overall health.
So many women move through life disconnected from the wisdom of their bodies: never taught how to identify ovulation, understand their hormonal patterns, or recognize the signs their body is constantly communicating.
This conversation changes that.
Ellora beautifully bridges science, functional medicine, and clinical experience to break down what is actually happening throughout the menstrual cycle — in a way that feels accessible, grounding, and incredibly empowering.
Inside this episode, we explore:
Why ovulation is about far more than fertility
How cervical mucus can reveal hormonal balance and overall health
The role progesterone plays in supporting pregnancy and nervous system regulation
Why hormonal birth control is often prescribed without women fully understanding its long-term impact
The connection between nutrient depletion, mood changes, and synthetic hormones
How cycle awareness can be used for both conception and natural family planning
The myth that breastfeeding prevents pregnancy postpartum
What the hormone relaxin actually does during pregnancy
Why pregnancy can create instability, pain, and pelvic discomfort
Practical ways to support the body through pregnancy with movement, strength, chiropractic care, and pelvic floor awareness
The Webster Technique, kinesiology taping, and creating balance in the body for birth preparation
More than anything, this episode is a reminder that understanding your body is foundational.
When women understand their cycles, hormones, and fertility, they are able to make more informed, aligned, and empowered decisions about their health, pregnancy journey, and lives.
