Be more patient. More disciplined. Better at your job. Better with your kids. Fix your anger. Manage your thoughts. Control your addictions. Try harder. Do better. Clean yourself up.
You're running yourself into the ground and it's not working.
Pastor Dave Comelli found himself grinding harder than ever - leading worship with 14 minutes' notice, preaching that same day, doing everything right. And at the end of it all? Completely empty. Drifting further from God while simultaneously working harder for Him.
He'd turned the gospel into a self-help program with a Jesus sticker slapped on it.
Here's what he discovered: You can't produce spiritual fruit through effort. It's literally impossible. Like trying to squeeze a rock so apple juice comes out. You can white-knuckle patience for three days, maybe five. Then the act falls apart and you're right back where you started.
Because you're not a fruit factory. You're a branch. And the branch doesn't help produce grapes - the branch receives life from the vine and fruit happens naturally as a result.
π‘ Big Idea:The Christian life isn't about knowing more - it's about abiding more.
