Unfortunately, our co-host Crabby has had to take a sabbatical to keep the fantastic Game Quest running in tip-top shape. We used this opportunity to get everyone's favorite Singlebanna, Rich, onto the show to talk Atari 2600. We talk about our memories of the system, collecting for the VCS, and some of our gaming favorites. Do you have fond memories of the system? Was the 2600 before your time? What should you keep an eye out for when you are shopping? Be sure to leave us comments and let us know!

We're back! During the time away, our very own Crabmaster has been busy building his store, Game Quest. We take the time to discuss what the process of opening a store is like, what are the lessons to be learned, and how it effects the owner. Many collectors consider opening a retail store to do what they love, and this will give you a peek at someone that has made it successful.
It's been a bit since we last caught up on the amazing gaming finds that everyone has made. We've changed the format to place the Small Scores after the main topic, so make sure to stay tuned to hear about all of the fantastic things that everyone has picked up.

Each time a new HD remake or Digital Remaster gets released, if you listen closely you will hear a collective sigh of disappointment that comes from long time collectors. The common thought is that this diminishes the value of the original release of a game. Is there any merit to this though?
This month we take a look at HD remakes, compilations, remastered games and digital re-releases and see how each affects the value of the original release prior to, during and long after the new release is available. Is your Earthbound cart going to depreciate drastically after the Wii U e-shop release? Let’s find out!
As always for your listening pleasure is several hours of the finest gaming scores dug up by the deal hunters on the rfgeneration.com forums!

As regular listeners know, the three of us tend to lean heavily in favor of the NES. In order to get a competent view of one of the most important eras of gaming, the 32 bit generation, we brought in the big guns to assist us. Dangerboy, AKA - Jason Dvorak, AKA - The Worlds Biggest Playstation Fan, is added to the mix to make sure we don’t overlook the importance of the Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn systems.
Being a long time collector himself he will give us his unique perspective on why this era is so much fun to collect for, and share his personal take on some of the more interesting aspects of picking up games on these systems. So take a listen as we dive into Jason’s vast pool of knowledge and explore everything from demo collecting to educational games.
And as always there are many hours of RFGen small scores to enjoy!

Bil and Duke travelled to Philadelphia for the TooManyGames convention to present a live (and much shorter) version of the Collectorcast. We discuss scores from the show as well as convention collecting tips.
We were excited to meet some of you there, and for those that want the experience the YouTube version includes video.

The Collectorcast is 1 year old! If you are anything like us, then you did not get enough NES homebrew talk way back in our Episode 8 interview with Assimilates creator, John White. Fear not though, as this time around we have got another homebrew developer, Derek Andrews, from the team at Gradual Games. They have recently released the NES homebrew game Nomolos: Storming the Catsle and are still hard at work on another new title on the system.
We pick Derek's brain on the development of Nomolos, get his thought processes behind many of the choices when developing the game, a little sneak peak at his upcoming project, and a plethora of insightful NES development knowledge.
And as usual the Small Scores are back and as big as ever!

  • RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 10: Me and Yous and Duke
Do words like Reproduction, ROM Hack or Pirate Cart have any place in a collector’s vocabulary? There are many fringe areas of collecting that may or may not find a home in your collection. How far removed from legitimate licensed releases are you comfortable with? If playing on the original hardware is important to you, is there a way to justify playing a back up of your games?
Where can you even get these things? Why would you want them? Are you still considered a collector if you partake?
Get our occasionally nonsensical take on such subjects as we explore the farthest reaches of physical media and collecting.
Interesting side note: If you listen to Episode 10 of the Collectorcast backwards, at full blast, and playing at half speed you might just hear the most sinister and unholy of words uttered straight from the depths of Hell... emulation!!

Whether you’re just starting out your collecting career or you’ve been at it for a little while, it can be daunting to tackle an unfamiliar system. Model Revisions, 1st and 3rd party accessories, different territories, software and many other new areas are opened up for you to explore. We’ll take one of the most beloved systems of all time, the NES, and break it down so that hopefully people still learning the basics about it can leave the Collectorcast with new found, and vastly useful, knowledge in their collecting quests for this classic system. As an area of focus for all 3 of our collections we hope to pool our combined knowledge and experience with the NES and show that there is a lot more to the “Nintendo” than one might think. But with a few tricks, a bit of research and some trial and error anyone can dive in and enjoy collecting for the NES in many different capacities if they have the desire.
As usual we’ll also spend waaay too much time discussing the plethora of amazing scores that have been posted (and blogged) at RF Generation. It’s becoming cliche to keep saying that this month’s scores exceeded the last, but fortunately it keeps being true! So check it out and see if you made the cut this time around. And make sure to stay tuned until the end for a special announcement regarding how you can help rfgeneration.com......

  • RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 8: Assimilating Castleroids
Many of us are familiar with the games released for our favorite consoles. But how can you enhance your collection beyond simply obtaining retail releases? We’ll explore one of many answers to that question this time around by entering the realm of Homebrew titles. And to make sure we treat the subject appropriately we’ve sought out help. NES Homebrew Developer John White, creater of the game Assimilate, joins us to discuss his thoughts on Homebrew games.
We took this opportunity to poke and prod as much info as we could from him regarding both his game and Homebrews in general. Being a collector focused site, we of course had to get his unique perspective on the collectability of such items too.
As usual we also discuss the most interesting scores posted on the site since our last recording. With the overwhelming number of post this time around we must apologize if you feel we missed mentioning your finds. There were far too many wonderful additions to our member's collections this episode that we really had to cut it down to what we felt were the absolute best scores.
