  • Psalm 121

Summer Mixtape: The Greatest Hits from the Psalms

    Speaker: Rev. John Baik

    Scripture: Psalm 121

Series intro: The Psalms are a collection of poetry that expresses and reveals the Christian life through music and lyrics that teach us how to deepen our relationship with God in our every day and even mundane lives.

Psalm 121 is a gentle and beautiful song that pleads the question we all ask when we find ourselves in troubled times: “Where does our help come from?”. The Psalmist answers the question by giving us 3 beautiful and meaningful images to answer the question.

    1. Our Keeper is SLEEPLESS

    2. Our Keeper PROVIDES

    3. Our Keeper is WITH US SIDE BY SIDE

    Conclusion:

The truths found in the Psalms help us in our troubles by not only knowing it, but to let the Word of God dwell in our hearts as a song that changes the outcome of our burden.

  • Being Mindful of God’s Power

    Minding God

    Being Mindful of God’s Power

    Rev. Ho-Ming Tsui

    Scripture: Psalm 46

Two Disciplines to Steady us in Difficult Times:

    ———

    1. “Be Still” - ie Stop Trying to Rule the World

Worry is this deep sense that we know better than God how life ought to go (See Matthew 6:25)

Wrong Mindset: When the world is out of OUR control, the world is out of control.

Right Mindset: God is in control, and I will learn to trust him

The human experience - with all its joys and sorrows - is incomplete until God is in the picture (see Romans 8:28; Genesis 50:20)

Believe there is a reason for whatever he allows:

    • Understand him more;

    • Understand yourself better

    • Re-prioritize something in your life

    • Grow to be more like Jesus

    ———

    2. “Know that I am God” - Seek shelter in the right place

Conclusion: Are you Mind-full or Mindful?

  • YLD Sunday: Calling

    Sermon Notes

    YLD Sunday: Calling

    Pastor Joey Ling

    Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 2:7-12

    Why am I here today?

7 As apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but instead we were like children[a] among you. Or we were like a mother feeding and caring for her own children. 8 We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.

9 Don’t you remember, dear brothers and sisters, how hard we worked among you? Night and day we toiled to earn a living so that we would not be a burden to any of you as we preached God’s Good News to you. 10 You yourselves are our witnesses—and so is God—that we were devout and honest and faultless toward all of you believers. 11 And you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children. 12 We pleaded with you, encouraged you, and urged you to live your lives in a way that God would consider worthy. For he called you to share in his Kingdom and glory.

    —1 Thessalonians 2:7-12 (NLT)

    A Compelling Example of Love

    2. This is My Calling as a Parent

    • We are to choose our calling over our comfort

    • No one has more influence on children than their parents.

    3. This is Our Calling as a Church

“We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders.” —Psalm 78:4

    Worship/Work

    Rev. Ho-Ming Tsui

    Scripture: Romans 12:1-8

    • Battle: Worship OR Work

    • Balance: Worship AND Work

    ———

    Conclusion: As a church…

  • Work in the New Heavens and New Earth

    Church at Work:

Work in the New Heavens and New Earth

    Rev. Shu-Ling Lee

    Scripture: Revelation 22:1-5 NIV

    Introduction:

    1. We will still be SERVING THE LORD (aka “working”) in the New Heavens and New Earth.

    (Rev 22:1-3, Col 3:23-24)

The point of the resurrection…is that the present bodily life is not valueless just because it will die…What you do with your body in the present matters because God has a great future in store for it…What you do in the present—by painting, preaching, singing, sewing, praying, teaching, building hospitals, digging wells, campaigning for justice, writing poems, caring for the needy, loving your neighbor as yourself—will last into God’s future. These activities are not simply ways of making the present life a little less beastly, a little more bearable, until the day when we leave it behind altogether (as the hymn so mistakenly puts it…). They are part of what we may call building for God’s kingdom.

—N.T. Wright - Surprised by Hope

    2. There will be no longer any CURSE OF WORK in the New Heavens and the New Earth.

    (Rev 22:3, Gen 3:8-21)

    3. JESUS CHRIST is the Center of the New Heavens and New Earth.

    (Rev 21:22-26, Rev 22:5)

    Conclusion

Question: What is your ONE THING?
