Life is not Disney. And Misti doesn't teach the "if he grabs you like this, say STOP" version of self-defense.

Misti is a journeyman instructor in Libre Knife Fighting, a youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach, and runs a mixed martial arts self-defense class in Pittsburgh. She's also training to become a hospice volunteer and, eventually, a death doula. Yes, the same woman. We contain multitudes.

"I don't know what my North Star is."

A client said this to me in group coaching, and I want to talk about it, because in the West, purpose has become the most socially acceptable excuse to not fucking move.

Where I'm from, purpose isn't bestowed on you by the gods, the fairies, the ancestors. Purpose happens AFTER you move.

But most people are waiting for their higher calling to show up so they'll be absolved of the sting of rejection, the cringe of learning a new skill, the crickets after they put themselves out there. And as long as it feels hard, they tell themselves they're "not aligned."

Wrong.

Stuck 12 cars deep behind a semi doing 25 in a 55, on one of the windiest highways on the West Coast, I watched grown adults lose their minds. Passing on double lines. Zero visibility. Risking their lives (and everyone else's) because the road wasn't moving the way they wanted.

And I felt nothing. Not because I'm "calm today." Because embodiment isn't a mood. It's not something you were "in" for one post. You either are it, or you're not.
