  • Cook's Dating Conversation #12: Shirley Hemphill and Elvis

Sometimes, we allow other people's opinion to control what we like or don't like. Elvis and Shirley Hemphill dated. They were the most unlikely couple, however, they dated. It worked well until his friends found out. He cut her off afterwards. Don't let peoples opinion dictate your happiness.

  • Cook's Dating Lessons #9: Beliefs Matter

In dating, there are the surface questions:

    1. What is your favorite food?

    2. What’s your favorite color?

    3. Why are you single?

Those are cute questions, but it doesn’t tell you the essence of the person. In my opinion, this should be in the top hierarchy of phone or in-person engagement. Sure, the cute questions are the fundamentals of getting to know a person, but you want to know the fundamentals of their belief. While food, entertainment, and likes may vary, seldom does a person’s belief in GOD change. A person’s belief matters. This is not a question that should be asked directly, but it should be a subtle back door question. For example, instead of asking what’s your religion is, you may want to speak on a religious topic and pivot from there.

    Example:
    1. Let me ask you, “Do you think people can have different faiths, yet still be together?” ← This sounds fundamental, but it’s loaded. It’s leading the person into your strategic question. (You don’t want a person to mimic your belief…..I will cover statement my next chapter)

    2. He/She will say Yes or No. Now, you have to ask him/her for an example by saying, “Oh. I see! So, give me an example: What’s your religion ( ), and would date a person who is ( )?

In this video, I discuss the importance of Beliefs in dating!
