Jim Somerville: "When it comes to the Holy Spirit -- and I say this in Christian love -- a lot of Baptists are ignorant. We often talk so much about sin that we might begin to think of baptism only as an effective remedy for that: as the means of 'washing our sins away.' Where is the Holy Spirit?"

Bucky Neal: "There are times when we are better served by the simplicity of faith than by the complexity of belief. Like Nathanael, my understanding was changed by an encounter with God..."

Josie Carver: "Is this how the Christian journey is sometimes? Do we sometimes wish for a do-over, a chance to start again?"

Jim Somerville: "Wisdom begins with an open mind. There is no place among the wise for those whose minds are already made up, for those who have put their thoughts into logic-tight compartments in their brains where they can't be contested or contradicted. We don't call such people wise -- we call them stubborn and opinionated..."

Robert Thompson: "We've used this Advent season as a time to ready ourselves for this day of days, using the simple gifts God has given us to deepen the meaning and the purpose of this sacred season. We need Christmas this year..."

Jim Somerville: "This is why we travel at Christmas, no matter how hard it is or how long it takes: because a letter isn't enough, a phone call isn't enough, even Skyping or FaceTiming isn't enough. We need to be physically present with each other at some point, and Christmas is the perfect time to do it..."
