Cissy Houston is the patriarch of the family.  Mother to Whitney.  Grandmother to Bobbi Kristina Brown.  And former mother-in-law to Bobbi Brown.

And a lifelong resident of Newark, she's lived a wonderful life and traveled the globe.  I can't help but wonder if losing both parents at a young age prepared her for the later loss of her only daughter Whitney and later the loss of her dear granddaughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

Still, she hasn't allowed these dark times and experiences to define her faith or her relationship with Jesus.

When asked about her daughter's drug addiction, Houston said "I didn't feel guilty...about anything.  I taught my children....This business is a real hard business to be in to, so I don't feel guilty about anything.  I took them and did what I had to do to them to get help and they were fine," she said this morning on the STAR 99.1 Morning Show with Rick Hall and Mysti.  Houston continued, "I'm healed...I was the kind of mother that I wanted to be.  And they got what I gave and that was Jesus, and care, and all of the things that I do, and love.  Whatever they did was their choice."

Houston spoke fondly of her time with her daughter.  She recalled a trip to Africa with a large group of family where they had the chance to meet with Nelson Mandela.  "We were in Africa one time.  I remember that forever.  It was one of the best times of my life," said Houston.
