In this message, we see Jesus encounter two very different men—one who seems to have almost everything and another who has almost nothing. Yet their stories reveal the same truth: we are completely dependent upon what only Jesus can provide. The rich young ruler shows us the danger of allowing wealth, morality, religion, or any other blessing to convince us that we don’t need God, while blind Bartimaeus shows us the posture of someone who knows he desperately needs mercy. When your heart has had enough, where do you turn? In Psalm 61, David shows us how to respond when life feels overwhelming—not by ignoring what we feel, but by bringing it to God. In this message, we see four responses of an overwhelmed heart: pray, remember, hope, and commit. In this message, we hear Jesus warn about threats to faith that can come from opposite directions.
