new adult college romance

Haylie went all out for her ex-boyfriend, Tyler. They had been serious in high school and she followed him all the way to Alaska, the two of them attending the same college where he played hockey. He betrayed her by cheating on her and moving to another state for their sports team. Haylie is heartbroken and on the rebound. She meets Cam, another handsome athlete. She swears off hockey players, but Cam is irresistible. She just wants a fling, but he wants more. This is new adult novella is a fast read. It was fun seeing whether or not Cam could wear down Haylieâs resolve against a new relationship. Her emotions were real and raw after being burned by Tyler.

What a sizzling start! I havenât read many NA books, so I was taken by surprise, and a little flustered, feeling quite the same as the MC, Haylie did, wrestling with her mind, in a tug of war with her heart over dating any more hockey players. Ever. After the last one, Tyler deserted her to follow his dream, even though she followed him to Alaska to attend the same University.

The sacrifice sheâs made, and continues to make, being off limits to any hockey players, tests her resolve. But itâs ok because she isnât looking for a boyfriend. She wants to try being a little daring, adventurous, wild. She throws herself at Cam, also on the hockey team, and sidekick once to Tyler. âRetaliation sexâ Thatâs her reasoning. She convinces herself she can do itâafter only ever have one serious boyfriend, she was finished with being good. But she struggles with this idea too.

Thereâs quite a bit of suspense in Haylieâs wrestling with her doubts. She tries to find a reasonâaside from crippling desireâto be with Cam again. He confesses heâs always pined away for her and has actually waited for her. And heâs unlike anybody sheâs ever met before. Trust me, heâs pretty damn sexy, and his patience endearing.

Haylieâs two best friends help her along, which is good because I wanted to do what BFF Maya tried to doâand help her to not make the mistake of losing someone really special because of her jaded self-talk.
