Most people believe in standing up for themselves. After all, when we are wronged, our instinct is often to get even, protect our rights, or make sure others feel what we have felt.

But Jesus takes the conversation deeper. Looking at His teaching in the Sermon on the Mount, we discover that His followers are called to respond differently. Rather than being driven by retaliation, they are invited to overcome evil with unexpected generosity, humility, and self-sacrifice.
