The date of the Rapture is not predictable, but there's a precise timeline for some of the things that will happen after that. Concerned atomic scientists have set their Doomsday Clock to 100 seconds before midnight. Well, Christians aren't waiting for "doomsday," but many of us would agree that time is short. There may be less than a hundred seconds until the Church is snatched away; we believe there's nothing that has to happen before that event. After that, though, the Antichrist will have to break a treaty that hasn't been made yet; and desecrate a Temple that hasn't been built yet. God's house, God's rules! A lot of churches are too "nice" to tell the truth. We should always "speak the truth in love," of course, but as soon as we claim that truth exists, and we know what it is, and that other things are false - we meet with resistance in a world of lies. On Friday Jim started teaching from 1 Timothy, Chapter 3, where Paul uses three analogies to show us what the church is, and what it's supposed to do. It is God's "house," God's "assembly," and "the pillar and support of the truth." What is the church? Why does it exist? What is its main mission? I'm not going to answer those questions; Jim is - or rather, the Apostle Paul is. "All's well that ends well." Today we'll wrap up our Daniel series with Part 2 of The God Who Closes Well. We've seen that Daniel's prophecies are so exact, and so accurate, that scoffers say they were written after the fact. But some of the events haven't happened yet, and that's what we're looking at in Chapter 12. Our God will Rescue - not always from the trial, but through the trial; He will Resurrect everyone - but that's not good news for everyone; and He will Reward everyone. The most soul-crushing defeats are those that look like certain victory until 2 seconds before the buzzer. God is going to serve the devil the most bitter loss of all eternity. As the clock ticks down on this human contest, it will seem like Satan is about to be crowned the world champion, and God's team is going down to humiliating defeat. If God were not patient, this would have all been over, long ago. We've been seeing that God knows the future because He has "determined" the future. But if God is in control at the level of the smallest details, doesn't that make Him responsible for sin? How do Christians who believe in a sovereign God answer that question? Our present age is like a train: it may seem to go slower or faster, but it's always "on track." For the original readers of Daniel's book, 2500 years ago, everything predicted in what we call "chapter 11" was in the future. The train has moved past most of these events now, and we can see that it has stopped at every station. We learn from Daniel's heavenly Visitor that the future, like the past, is already written. This train will reach its destination.
