Right Start Radio with Pastor Jim Custer

When people try to imagine what God is like, they're using the wrong tool for the job. Our imagination is part of us - corrupt, flawed, and limited. If we want to come to know God, we'll have to examine His creation for clues, and pay very close attention to the things He's revealed about Himself in the Bible. This week we're continuing our Attributes of God series with sermons on His self-existence, His self-sufficiency, and His eternity.

The 250th Anniversary of American independence has been marked mostly by people trying to sell me merchandise! (Which is very American, when you think about it.) Beings act according to their nature. Even God. So what is the nature of the Divine Being, and how can we align our natures with His? Jim has chosen to begin a study on The Attributes of God with a look into the doctrine of the Trinity. Here's part 2 of, They is One.

Who is God... really? "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." The Pharisees thought they knew God. The New Agers think they recognize God in themselves. The imagination of mankind has spun out idols uncountable. Well, who is the true God? And how can we know Him? We'll pursue answers to those questions in our new series, The Attributes of God.

Sola Gratia didn't come from Martin Luther; it came from the event we'll read about today. "...it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved...." That's Peter. "Saint" Peter, if you like. The cry, "By Grace Alone" didn't start in the 1500s, but in Acts 15, very early in the life of the church. Here's Jim to complete his talk, By Grace - Not by Law.

Somebody left the back door to the church unlocked, and the Gentiles are sneaking in! OK, alright; God has chosen people from pagan nations to become Christians, too. We'll get used to that. Eventually. But they'll have to come through the front door - the Mosaic Law! So said the legalists. But the church was about to determine that Faith is the front door, the only door, into the Kingdom of God. Here's the first part of Jim's sermon, By Grace - Not by Law.

The gospel, honored; the gospel, rejected. On Friday we were looking at Acts 13, and finding two very different responses to the gospel, as proclaimed by Paul and Barnabas. To say that the Gentiles received the Good News and the Jews didn't is an oversimplification. Today we'll jump back into Luke's account of politics, paganism and portents. Here's Pastor Jim to conclude his talk entitled, Serving in the Zone.

When we come to Acts 13, there's a shift in the story. Really, it's hard to keep our footing in the book of Acts, so much is happening - including things that have never happened before! But when the gospel made it to Antioch it established a beachhead, and launched out. Here was a church made up of both Jews and Gentiles; a fellowship that prayed; that heard from God; a church that cared. Today we'll hear the first half of Pastor Jim's sermon, Serving in the Zone.
