What a great year of podcasting and songwriting it has been! Here at RightPlaceWriteTime, we have written a total of 19 songs and recorded 19 podcasts! Each of us have different things going on in our lives, made even more complicated by the lockdown. With the new school year starting back up, we thought it was time for a short break. This episode is just a quick update on what's been going on in the past month and what our plans are for the future. In the weeks between now and November (the start of Season 2), we intend to produce micro sized episodes where Jillian and Justin produce the songs they have written in the past! Thank you so much for listening and we look forward to how you all can be involved in Season 2!
We wrote a song about those peaceful moments that catch us by surprise. Often these moments of pause will provide all kinds of therapy to the soul, whether it be inspiration or simple clarity. We believe the end product we created is something beautiful and perfect listening for those moments between moments that we are all blessed to find on occasion. Sit back, relax, and enjoy our latest song!
We love teachers! They are super important and we've all had a number of professors who made a lifelong impact on us. However, this isn't always the case. In this episode, we talk about some of our experiences growing up as well as some of the current shortcomings of the modern education system. In the end, with limited time, we wrote a fun song with a catchy chorus and we hope you enjoy it! Again, we can't stress this enough, we love teachers!
After two months of not being able to meet together, we finally returned to the studio! Would we do a song about the quarantine? The angst of being socially distanced? A "Call to Arms" type song? Well, Justin is a pretty big fan of metal and after tip toeing through our options, we landed on something that we knew would be a lot of fun! In this episode, we attempt to write our own version of a metal song and we hope you like it!
With all of the frustrating things happening in our world right now, we started this track with the simple mindset of writing a very relaxed, 'chill vibes' song. The month of May, when this track was written, also happened to be 'Birthday Month' for Dirk and Justin, so we played around with the idea of writing a new birthday song... but with deeper meaning of course. After wandering through the lyrical wilderness, we wound up with a smattering of somewhat cohesive ideas that Jillian then miraculously strung together into something very cool. We hope you enjoy our 'Royalty Free' birthday song!
In this episode, we begin with the idea of writing another song that is similar to our "Be Kind" track, but it quickly became apparent that if we were going to write a song about 'knowing your worth' that it would have to include something about our Christian Faith. Quickly, our songwriting changes gears from writing a fun children's song, into writing our first serious Worship song, called 'You Say You Believe". We share a little about our own faith and end up writing a song that reflects our shared spiritual struggles. Thanks for listening, and feel free to share!
"Hey, I have to tell you something!" Your friend says. "Oh really? What is it?" you answer. "Nevermind, I'll tell you later!" Your friend responds. "No, really, what is it?" You begin to sweat. "Nah, I'll just tell you later." Your friend is intent on torturing you. "TELL ME!"
At the end of January 2004, the Opportunity Lander descended onto Mars for what was supposed to be a short mission. However, the NASA Rover ended up surviving on the Red Planet for 15 years! After so much time, the scientists and much of the world became attached to their resilient buddy, giving her the nickame, "Oppy." In June of 2018, after a severe storm on the Martian surface, she finally stopped communicating and on February 13 of 2019, NASA finally gave up on ever receiving another transmission from her. We decided to write a heartfelt song dedicated to this bittersweet story and we hope you enjoy it!
You may have seen the poster in our intro video... or you may have missed it. Hidden in the background of our garage set was the poster emblazoned with the words "Kazoos are for Lovers!" In our early meetings, when we discussed what kinds of art and props should populate our cartoon world, we joked about having posters for random things that didn't actually exist... but now after this recording session - it actually does exist! Check out our new song, Kazoos are for Lovers and listen in on how we wrote it!
