Welcome to RIMScast. Your host is Justin Smulison, Business Content Manager at RIMS, the Risk and Insurance Management Society.
Many organizations around the globe are instituting and implementing their return-to-work policies so that workers can return to their worksite. However, with the COVID-19 Delta variant now a threat and rising COVID-19 rates in certain areas of the world, risk professionals need to make critical decisions on how to advise on the best ways to reopen.
Rejoining the podcast to discuss the topic is RIMScast friend, Dr. Gleb Tsipursky! Dr. Tsipursky is the CEO of Disaster Avoidance Experts, LLC. — a boutique consulting, coaching, and training firm empowering leaders and organizations to avoid business disasters.
In this episode, Dr. Tsipursky discusses how business leaders can make wise decisions when implementing their organization’s return-to-work policies, return-to-work risks, and the cognitive biases that are holding leaders back in becoming more flexible — a trait that is incredibly needed in today’s world.

Welcome to RIMScast. Your host is Justin Smulison, Business Content Manager at RIMS, the Risk and Insurance Management Society.
The pandemic has accelerated retailers’ e-commerce strategies, and both warehouse and store infrastructure are radically changing to support this. However, during these infrastructure upgrades, fire protection is frequently one of the last items on the construction checklist. The failure to address proper fire protection can have a dramatic impact on final renovation/construction project cost, daily fulfillment operations, and business continuity should a fire occur.
Addressing this topic today along with Justin Smulison is Leonard Ramo, the President of Telgian Engineering & Consulting and a globally recognized fire protection industry professional with a distinguished career spanning more than 25 years. His expertise includes effective corporate executive, practicing fire protection engineer, and consultant to international organizations.
In this conversation, Leonard offers invaluable insights on how you can reassess fire risk as your e-commerce business grows and evolves. He speaks about proactive full-scale fire tests, the fire and life safety risks associated with infrastructure changes, and how addressing fire safety early in the process can result in millions of dollars saved for clients.

Welcome to RIMScast. Your host is Justin Smulison, Business Content Manager at RIMS, the Risk and Insurance Management Society.
COVID-19 remains a serious threat. On June 29th, 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that there have been 181,007,816 confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally, including 3,927,222 deaths. As of June 28th, 2021, a total of 2,660,756,547 vaccine doses have been administered.
This week, Dr. Adrian Hyzler, the Chief Medical Officer of Healix International, joins RIMScast once again to provide an update on current COVID-19 developments. He discusses the current WHO data; the new Delta variant that is causing major disruption in India, South Africa, the UK, and Australia; his outlook on herd immunity; and information around vaccine boosters in development. He also shares some insights around the long-haul symptoms of COVID-19, how these symptoms manifest both physically and mentally, and what risk professionals can continue to do to safely drive their organization’s reopenings.

[21:57] Dr. Hyzler shares his thoughts on how he thinks the long-haul symptoms will impact long-term disability claims and whether insurance companies will accept or deny these claims. He also shares his thoughts on whether or not companies will extend the length of coverage for mental health disabilities in an effort to attract, retain, or accommodate their employees.
[22:53] What Dr. Hyzler feels are some of the best ways to re-emerge from the pandemic, from what companies have done correctly to what we can do as individuals.

The Spencer Educational Foundation has launched its 2nd annual comprehensive fundraising campaign, “Funding Their Future Campaign.” This campaign, which aims to raise $1 million, is being held in lieu of Spencer’s Annual Gala; one of the industry’s most successful fundraisers. Welcome to RIMScast. Your host is Justin Smulison, Business Content Manager at RIMS, the Risk and Insurance Management Society.
In the aftermath of the financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused boards to rethink their risk oversight. As a result, managing risk has become more top-of-mind as a skill set for board recruitment. And these days, what better site to use than LinkedIn to network if you want to find yourself in a boardroom? Networking virtually is becoming an absolute necessity as more and more professionals go remote.
In this episode of RIMScast, Whitney Craig, RIMS Government Relations Director, rejoins the podcast to conduct a special interview with career coach, Richard Dodson! Richard is an award-winning author, speaker, career consultant, and — most importantly for this conversation — a LinkedIn expert! Currently, he is an Executive Consultant and the LinkedIn Practice Lead at Navigate Forward; the premier provider of Executive Transition Services. To say Richard is knowledgeable in the space of self-promoting and catalyzing careers is an understatement. His book, Power Your Career: The Art of Tactful Self-Promotion, won five national awards as the best career book of the year; and he has coached more than one thousand people through challenging career transitions.
Richard and Whitney speak about the RIMS Path to the Boardroom initiative, the skill sets and personal branding updates you need on your LinkedIn profile to either sit on a board or rise to a high position in leadership, the most important first steps to take in order to be considered for a board, how to leverage virtual networking, and what you can do to use LinkedIn to procure a board seat.
