It’s was a pleasure to today to have as my guest the legendary trainer of Champions Virgil Hunter from Oakland California Virgil is American boxing coach. He was selected to receive the Futch–Condon Award for the 2011 Trainer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA)The trainer of the great Andre Ward also his godfather, he became his trainer when Andre was young and remained his trainer for the length of his careerTogether they accomplished amazing thing Andre won a Olympic Gold Medal for America in 2004 Games in Athens Then Virgil trained Ward to become World Super Middleweight Champion beating the king of the division at the time Mikkel Kesslerfor the WBA title then he went onto win the famous Super Six Tournament capturing the WBC title along the way beating names such as Carl Froch Arthur Abraham Sakio Bika along his way A great win over Chad Dawson was next Then Virgil guided Ward toward light heavy weight glory dethroningThe Krusher light heavyweight king Wining the IBF, WBA (Super) and WBO light heavyweight belts from Sergey KovalevThey fought twice Ward winning both the rematch by TKO after this Ward announced his retirement.Virgil has also trained top fighters like Andre Berto, Amir Khan, Alfredo Angulo, Nicola Adamsand, more recently, Joshua Buatsi and Amari Jones He is an old school master trainer with a brilliant boxing brain I really enjoyed this interview.
