Welcome to SHIPWRECKED & COMATOSE, an in-depth podcast

dedicated to the classic BBC science-fiction sitcom, Red Dwarf.

Rob Grant (1955–2026):

Shipwrecked & Comatose Reacts to the Loss of a Red Dwarf Legend

Host Kurt North is joined by Matt Laham and Colin Jackson Brown for an emergency episode of Shipwrecked & Comatose following news that Rob Grant has died aged 70.

They discuss how the report was verified via the G&T news site after it briefly went down, and note Craig Charles’ tribute on X calling Grant a visionary.

The conversation reflects on Grant’s career from Spitting Image (including the chart-topping “Chicken Song”) to co-creating Red Dwarf with Doug Naylor, and his novels, including Grant Naylor books and solo work such as Incompetence and Backwards.

They also talk about the recently announced prequel novel Red Dwarf: Titan, hoping it is finished, and share personal stories about Red Dwarf’s multi-generational impact and influence on their friendships and humour, before closing with condolences to Grant’s family and friends.
