In this episode artist and sculptor Garrett Phelan shares his unconventional journey through the art world.. After finding his footing in graphic design, he later transitioned into the art industry, working at prestigious galleries like the Douglas Hyde Gallery and the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). Phelan’s experiences there helped him understand the business side of art, which informed his own practice. His most recent endeavours include the HIDE Project, a multifaceted public art initiative inspired by his connection to nature and his family's history in Fingal. The project includes bird-themed prints, a functional bird hide sculpture, a radio station, and a dedicated website, all aimed at fostering community engagement and highlighting local biodiversity. Additionally, Phelan's Golden Bandstand project is a striking public installation that brings art into communal spaces. Phelan's work emphasizes the importance of storytelling, respect for artistic dedication, and the balance between professional and personal creativity.
