This episode takes you to the mountains in the north of India in the western Himalayas, where there is a rural village called Tillu. It is here the non-government organisation Samta Tillu was born.

Devyani is an Indian woman who came to Tillu about 5 years ago while working and studying in the social sector. She quickly realised there were extremely unequal educational opportunities for students in the village.

This inspired her to start supporting students who were interested in not only academic support but also life skills, leadership growth, mentoring and creating a network of support in the village.

I speak to Devyani to learn how Samta Tillu has grown to a 24/7 space for students to connect, support and learn together. We will also hear from some of the Samta Tillu students about what the community means to them.

Hello! I am Rachael Thompson and this is Ripples of Humanity

I have started this podcast project to share stories of local people I meet who are committed to spreading light and creating positive ripples in their corner of the world.

As I record this intro in August 2024 I am on a 6 month trip in India. Everywhere I travel I find myself drawn to people and projects that aim to create positive change.

I am fascinated by their journey and hope this podcast can be an avenue for people to hear about their work, the perspective they bring and the change they wish to see in the world.
