The Seven Families of Pipple-Popple is a short story set in the absurd land of Gramble-Blamble, where seven animal families — parrots, storks, geese, owls, guinea pigs, cats, and fish — send their forty-nine children out to see the world with eight shillings and a warning each. One by one, the young creatures ignore their parents' advice with increasingly ridiculous and catastrophic results, from a brawl over a single cherry to a fatal encounter with a barking Plum-pudding Flea. Darkly comic and gleefully nonsensical, the story builds to a finale involving glass bottles, sealing wax, and museum exhibits.
