1) I never got around to the reason behind the Sonic story (meeting people where they are and communicating with them in their preferred “language”) — we had a deaf customer that no one felt comfortable serving, so I would just take a note pad and pencil out to take his order and ask questions. He kept coming back, thankfully. 💕

2) The dog daycare and boarding business I mentioned made $8,000 more in July 2019 compared to July 2018, after we started incorporating more stories & social media engagement (as well as a bit of basic SEO). As of today, their gross sales have increased by 35% over the past 12 months (even though sales had declined during the previous 12 months! That's the power of story and making an emotional connection with your audience!) 😎

3) I decided not to become a high ticket closer for my friend’s business — instead, I’m now working on putting together a digital course with an award-winning filmmaker. Traveling derailed her life completely, says Sumeena Gupta. It freed her from the corporate world where she felt like she was "on the treadmill or plugged into the Matrix."

This year, she will travel all over the world, unschooling her three children, while overseeing the beautiful resort in Bali that she owns with her husband.

"I'm Asian with an Indian background, and we're expected to do certain things like get a good job, buy a house, get married, have kids ... and I was very much on that path, doing what I thought I had to do. And then my husband and I decided to travel at 30, and it just changed everything. It derailed us completely."

We recorded this interview while she was in Argentina, but she is now in Peru. In February, she will be in Guatemala!

It takes a lot of courage to forge your own path, going against traditional norms and family expectations. Sumeena shares with us how she makes calculated risks, builds security around her decisions, and then jumps.
