The 23rd psalm is often associated with death. However, it is truly a scripture about our life HERE and now! We can sometimes think we lack the things we need to get through this life. But, according to this verse, we lack NOTHING. WE have been given everything we need for this moment, this time in our lives. When we completely embrace this truth, it becomes transformative in the way we relate to our Good Shepherd!

Psalm 16:8 I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. “I have set the Lord”... It is a discipline and choice, an act of the will to keep the Lord before us. We live in a noisy world where we are constantly bombarded with messages, images and experiences which will distract our hearts away from God if we allow them to. We are God's children and part of His family. In the same unchangeable way that our parents blood is running through our veins, so is our position in the Gods family. It is established, there is nothing we can do to change that. When we continually remain cognizant of that fact, we will always know who we are and where our identity is, in Him. The result of this understanding will be a life of worship is more honest and true as we shine forth the glory that he has shined within us..

The idol of self is very prevalent today. We see can see this in the dominance of social media over the way we use our time and how we care so deeply the way others see us. We want to show everyone else how great we are and how great our lives are.” This drive to always present ourselves in a better light, often better than reality is really driven by fear.
