Sean teaches us about how loneliness is a very real battle in this day and age and how we are to fight it by finding our every need in Christ and by being a part of the Church. God gives us community with Himself and with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Sean Eppers wraps up our series on Ruth, showing us how Jesus is our True and Better Redeemer, and how God is sovereign over all things in life, working for our good and His glory.

Sean examines the moment Boaz wakes up to Ruth at his feet. But rather than giving into a moment of passion, Boaz stands for righteousness, further displaying the character of Jesus, our Redeemer.

"Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, should I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you? Is not Boaz our relative, with whose young women you were? See, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. Wash therefore and anoint yourself, and put on your cloak and go down to the threshing floor, but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. But when he lies down, observe the place where he lies. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down, and he will tell you what to do.” And she replied, “All that you say I will do.”

So she went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had commanded her. And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. Then she came softly and uncovered his feet and lay down. At midnight the man was startled and turned over, and behold, a woman lay at his feet! He said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your servant. Spread your wings over your servant, for you are a redeemer.”"

Ruth 3:1-9

Ruth is a story that clearly parallels and points to Jesus and the redemption that He brings His people. Sean examines how we start seeing those parallels in Boaz towards Ruth.

Josh Agnew examines the parallels of Boaz and the way he treats Ruth to how God treats us. He is a refuge to His people.

"But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.” And when Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, she said no more.

So the two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. And when they came to Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them. And the women said, “Is this Naomi?” She said to them, “Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. I went away full, and the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi, when the Lord has testified against me and the Almighty has brought calamity upon me?” So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabite her daughter-in-law with her, who returned from the country of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest."

In this sermon, Josh Agnew digs into the relationships that we see in the story of Ruth and parallels them to relationships we have today. They are hard, they are messy, but the Lord is good and is working, and we can trust Him!

“In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land, and a man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. 2 The name of the man was Elimelech and the name of his wife Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They went into the country of Moab and remained there. 3 But Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, died, and she was left with her two sons. 4 These took Moabite wives; the name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. They lived there about ten years, 5 and both Mahlon and Chilion died, so that the woman was left without her two sons and her husband.”
