Coachella and Stagecoach: postponed.  San Jose Sharks games played in an empty arena with no fans to be found.  Conferences, meetings, public events of all kinds: canceled.  Welcome to our new coronavirus reality, at least for the short term.  But will these types of drastic steps and major disruptions to everyday life actually stop the spread of COVID-19?  

We then head to Northern Italy, a region that is now on lockdown and quarantined from the rest of the world after an explosion of coronavirus cases there.

And.......the whole toilet paper thing.  Panic buying hand sanitizer, face masks and even bottled water.......that's understandable.  But why the run on toilet paper?

LAUSD's school board declared a state of emergency today over coronavirus, raising the prospect of canceling classes or moving up the spring break:  and this presents a major dilemma for parents.  Protecting their kids from possible coronavirus infection, or dealing with the massive disruption of having their kids at home.

And finally we go to Michigan, the focal point of Super Tuesday two-point-ohh, where Joe Biden is hoping to put away Bernie Sanders and clear a path to the Democratic nomination.

More infections, more deaths and many more anxieties:  the coronavirus epidemic shows no signs of slowing down here in the United States, and in fact as the CDC finally starts to ramp up its testing of probable COVID-19 patients, the infection numbers could spike dramatically. 

In Northern California a Sacramento-area school district announced the drastic step of closing down classes for the week in an attempt to stop any spread of coronavirus.

And the doomed Grand Princess cruise ship is finally back in port after dozens of passengers became infected with coronavirus, we'll go live to Port of Oakland.

After lots of bad days of Wall Street, today has been the worst yet:  the Dow Jones dropped over 2-thousand points as the economic fallout from coronavirus continues; and now investors have to contend with the really horrible timing of an oil price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia.

And if you were out at a Costco or Target this weekend, you probably saw it:  lots and lots of empty shelves.  The same kind of panic buying has been happening in the United Kingdom, so authorities there started to ration products like hand sanitizers and face masks.  Should we be doing the same thing here?

Nearly every day for the past several weeks we've been told of more cases of coronavirus being reported in the United States--and the mere presence of the virus, even as the numbers of infected people remains very small, has started to disrupt our daily lives.  Gatherings and conventions have been canceled, airlines are scaling back flights, there have been runs on face masks hand sanitizer, soap and bottled water.  Anxieties are high and only getting worse.

So we're going to spend the next hour on In Depth pulling apart the COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic, clear up a lot of  misinformation and hopefully put everything that's gone down over the last couple of months into perspective.

Was the federal government properly prepared to respond to a coronavirus outbreak here, even as they saw it coming? Should  more large gatherings of people, like this weekend's LA Marathon, be canceled out of an abundance of caution? And just how freaked out should you be by this epidemic?  We hope to answer all of these questions and a lot more in this edition of In Depth.

As the number of coronavirus cases and deaths continues to climb across the United States, Vice President Mike Pence said there weren't enough coronavirus test kits available to meet demand--this after lots of promises from the Vice President and President Trump that hundreds of thousands of testing kits were on the way.

And as the rate of coronavirus spread is picking up, doctors are put into an increasingly tough position when dealing with anxious patients: when is a cough and congestion just the common cold, and when is it COVID-19? 

Yet another issue brought up because of coronavirus: uninsured Americans and whether they can get coverage for testing and treatment of the virus.

In some non-coronavirus related news:  then there were two.  Elizabeth Warren officially dropped out of the Democratic nomination race today, leaving the Bernie vs. Biden matchup.  Which way will her voters break, and what happened to her once promising candidacy?

And closer to home, California Republicans are feeling pretty good after Super Tuesday about retaking several congressional seats that the Democrats flipped in 2018.

And then there were the lines.........oh the long, grueling lines at voting centers around Los Angeles.  Is there enough time to fix voting glitches by November?

Election day is finally here, with California's 415 delegates up for grabs for the four remaining Democratic presidential contenders and plenty of other races to decide further down the ballot.  So far, largely so good for LA County's new touch-screen voting systems -- we'll check in on how voting has been going today.

One of the last presidential candidates left standing hasn't appeared on a single ballot before today, and yet has spent over a quarter-billion-dollars: former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg talks with KNX In Depth about his chances.

On the news that another healthcare worker in Northern California has tested positive for coronavirus, there are increasing concerns among nurses and technicians that they are under-prepared and under-trained to deal with an influx of patients.

Wall Street was supposed to be soothed today, after the Federal Reserve cut interest rates -- instead still investors seem anxious.

And the LA County Sheriff Department is dealing with a new scandal: a group of deputies apparently took pictures at the scene of the crash where Kobe Bryant and others were killed; the deputies then shared those pictures. Did the Sheriff try to make the controversy quietly go away?

It's a race against time for scientists around the world. They're working furiously to understand the new coronavirus. It's now infected more than 83,000 people and killed close to 3,000. A new study finds the virus has an HIV-like mutation that gives it novel properties. Scientists compare it to SARS, saying SARS was more deadly but this one is more infectious. How different is it than the flu? Would you even notice the difference? 

There's good and bad economic news because of the coronavirus. The stock market's been tanking. Also, international trade is being disrupted. The good news---gas prices might drop soon. 

Students across the country are having a tough time with math. The latest results of an international exam ranked American teens 31st in math literacy out of 79 countries and economies. The reason could be how the subject is taught here versus other countries. 

She was there to watch Harvey Weinstein go down at his sex assault trial. Attorney Gloria Allred represented three women who testified. She was a consistent presence in court to the irritation of his defense. She's also involved in the Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficking case. She joins us in-studio to talk about those cases and what happens next and the future of the #MeToo movement.
