November 14-20, 2021 marks this year’s Victims and Survivors of Crime Week. The goal of Victims and Survivors of Crime Week is to raise awareness about the issues facing those who have experienced crime, and advocate for those facing abuse who may have not have access to services that meet their needs. Listen to our honest discussion about the impacts of experiencing trauma, abuse and criminalization.
In honour of Pride Month and our dedication to creating an inclusive space for our clients, staff and volunteers this discussion talks about the various issues that 2SLGBTQ+ communities are facing. Guest also share their lived experiences as members of the community and we look at the types of services and programs needed to support 2SLGBTQ+ identified people we serve as an organization.
This discussion delves into the different ways lack of housing effects women, specifically the women we serve at Elizabeth Fry Toronto. Women often struggle to access affordable, safe and permanent housing, which puts them in situations that increases their likelihood to come into conflict with the law. Everyone has a right to housing that meets basic conditions, however many people are left homeless, couch surfing or in precarious housing situations.
