    Re-imagining Community w/ Dominique Davis
Dominique Davis is a pinnacle in his Seattle community. Devoting himself to working with some of the most disadvantaged youth in our region, “Coach Dom” once made his greatest impact through sports, mentoring and coaching kids to keep them off the streets and on a better path.
Now, as the founder of Community Passageways, Dom leads efforts to re-imagine how communities can rally behind traumatized youth, abolishing the “cradle to prison” pipeline and building support systems that enforce positive identities and key life skills. Through mentoring, career development, housing placement, restorative justice, and diversion programs to keep kids out of prison, Dom is a true leader in youth-centered community building, and an ideal example of how a man once consumed by the systems of oppression can turn his life around for the good of himself and his people.
Community Passageways, founded in 2015, works with school administrators, police departments, justice officials, correctional center staff, religious institutions, and families to establish healthy, happy, safe communities.
    Key Points
During our session with Dom we explore such themes as:
What are the primary ways Community Passageways is working with youth today?
How did Dom’s story and upbringing influence his path to becoming a youth advocate?
What is true restorative justice? And what is it not?
How are folks in our region leading the nation in youth development?
How can we build relationships between school admins, teachers, and students?
What might a Journeymen x Community Passageways collaboration look like?
    And much, much more…
Keep in mind, this session is longer than normal, and may have a couple slip ups of profanity and/or intense dialogue.

Rites of Passage with Darcy Ottey
As an initiated European-American woman, Darcy’s strongest passion is exploring how those of us disconnected from our traditional rites of passage can reclaim and create rites and practices meaningful and relevant in our lives and communities at this time, in ways that are in solidarity with the struggles of marginalized communities in our home places and around the globe.
Darcy has guided hundreds of youth and adults through wilderness-based initiatory experiences. I was the Executive Director of Rite of Passage Journeys from 2006 – 2011, and the Rite of Passage Supervisor/Interim Program Director of Pacific Quest. Most recently, I helped to birth Youth Passageways, a diverse network of individuals, organizations, and communities working to support the initiation of young people into mature adulthood in these transition times.
Darcy helps individuals, organizations, and communities navigate transitions in meaningful and culturally-relevant ways. Her work can be described with a number of different titles, including rite of passage guide, facilitator, educator, consultant, and mentor. She considers herself a bridge-builder and a shapeshifter, often showing up differently depending on the needs of her environment and community.
    Key Points
During our session with Darcy we explore such themes as:
What are some of the historical lessons within rites of passage?
Why are rites of passage important today?
    What is special about adolescence?
What is the mission of Youth Passageways?
How can folks get involved in this work?
    And much, much more…
For those looking to view Darcy’s TED Talk referenced in the podcast, you can do so here. Also, be sure to visit her website www.darcyottey.com and get in touch with her if you feel called to enlist her talents in this work.
Additionally, Darcy is Co-Facilitating an upcoming workshop that we hope you will check out. “Before We Were White” is an online workshop series for white-identified people seeking greater emotional resilience in their work against racism and for a sustainable future.

    Rite Ways Radio
    ~ Episode 4 ~
    Mentorship with Michael Meade
Michael Meade, D.H.L., is a renowned storyteller, author, and scholar of mythology, anthropology, and psychology. He combines hypnotic storytelling, street-savvy perceptiveness, and spellbinding interpretations of ancient myths with a deep knowledge of cross-cultural rituals. He has an unusual ability to distill and synthesize these disciplines, tapping into ancestral sources of wisdom and connecting them to the stories we are living today.
Meade is the founder of Mosaic Multicultural Foundation, a nonprofit network of artists, activists, and community builders that encourages greater understanding between diverse peoples, and has authored and edited several books on the topics of initiation, rites of passage, and the human condition.
With a deep mythic understanding of the patterns that drive our modern world and a degree of authenticity that allows him to create safe and transformative containers in even the most challenging environments, Michael speaks to the nature and significance of our work in a way that few people can. Knowing about his long history of impacting the lives of youth across the socioeconomic spectrum, and considering his role in advancing our modern understandings of rites of passage, the archetype of initiation, and the role of mentorship in healthy society, we were honored to hear of his willingness to lend his voice to Rite Ways, and we are excited to share our journey with you.
    Key Points
During this audio adventure we touch on many topics that are vital to our work. In fact, it was so fruitful we had to break it up in to two parts. This first segment seems to dance within the greater theme of mentorship, with specific mentions of:
Identifying the role of the mentor in a disintegrating culture
The irony, coincidence and significance of our current political climate
The crisis of over-protective parenting (and ensuing fear of mentoring)
The radically efficient process by which fruitful mentoring relationships are established
A practical strategy for working with gang populations
    And much, much more…

  • Rite Ways Radio #2: Lori Woodley

    ~ Episode 2 ~
    Better Parenting with Lori Woodley
As President and Founder of All It Takes, Lori Woodley has dedicated her life to conscious parenting and child development  After 25 years as a school counselor focusing on experiential learning, parenting support, peer programs and emotional intelligence, Lori now spends her time writing and speaking on these key issues, leading workshops, and guiding the All It Takes team to touch the lives of hundreds of youth every year through their transformational camps and programs.

In addition to her work with All It Takes, Lori is a prime example of someone who is willing to “walk the walk” and show up in support of what she believes. On one such occasion, during one of her many trips out to Standing Rock in the past year, Lori played a key role in organizing a Thanksgiving Day feast celebrating the Indigenous Peoples local to the area and those visiting in solidarity to the water protection cause. Because of her efforts, and as the world watched, thousands of us joined together in peace and intention at Standing Rock High School to listen to the voices of committed elders, youth, and adults who had something meaningful to share. And it was beautiful.
    Key Points
This episode is packed with valuable info! During our conversation we cover:
Lori’s extensive work with youth and families and her motivation to create All It Takes
One of the least mentioned and most important things every parent needs to prioritize
