We continue our series today by asking the question of “Who is Jesus?” Under the umbrella of asking that question, we are looking at the book of 1 John. We have looked at a Biblical view of Christ, and last week a Biblical view of Sin. We had so much fun talking about sin, Pastor Dustin made it into a two-part series. Last week, we talked about the seriousness of sin and the importance of having a large view of sin. If we have a small view of sin, then we have a small view of Jesus Christ as Savior. Talking about the hard things in life is a sign of love, and we continue this very important discussion today.

We continue to ask the question “Who is Jesus?” this today. Over the past month, we have looked at the book of 1 John. We looked at who the Apostle John is and why what he has to say is important. We looked at a Biblical View of Jesus Christ and what God through Scripture has to say about Himself. And then for the past two weeks, we looked at a Biblical View of Sin and what God has to say about sin. We learned that if we have a small view of sin, then we will have a small view of our Savior. Today we move on from the topic of theological sin to the subject of obedience in 1 John 2:3-6.

Last week we learned that the nature of God. He showed us that Jesus Christ is both divine and human.

Without both - the divinity of Christ and the humanity of Jesus, we’re all in big trouble.

If you want a big swanky theological term for this - it’s called the hypostatic union.

The hypostatic union is the fusion of both the divine and human nature within Jesus Christ.

Christ must be divine because no one can forgive sins except the one true Living God.

Christ must also be human - Because only a human can make satisfaction for sin,

Why? Because humans are the ones who sinned.

So if God can only forgive sin, and yet a human must pay the penalty for our sin, then we can see the beauty and amazement and fulfillment -

The awe of both in Jesus Christ as being fully divine and fully human.

This is why Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God who took away our sins.

Today, we are dealing with different forms of false teachings.

How do you know you're going to Heaven? How do you know that you are absolutely positively saved from yourself and God's wrath due to your sin? Today's lesson starts answering these questions as Pastor Dustin starts a verse by verse study on the book of 1 John.

Who is Jesus? Was Jesus just a good man with good morals? Was Jesus the Son of God like He said He was? Or did He suffer from delusions of grandeur with a “messiah complex”? People were asking this question in the first century and they continue to ask it in the 21st century. This question is THE most important question of your entire life. The answer to this question reveals your worldview - it uncovers how you live and behave.

The answer to this question is displayed in how you treat people, how you spend your money and what you do with your free time. Who is Jesus? To find that answer, we are going to read and study a first-hand account of the Apostle John.
