When we become a Christian, we have a new identity being a follower of Jesus. Lots to learn but the old has passed away and all things are new. As the bible says we have been born again.

We are on a discipleship journey, we learn from the Holy Spirit, from the teachings in the bible and from each other in Church. God has good plans for us. The old has passed away He makes all things new. 2Corinthians 5:17

Being baptized mirrors Jesus' own baptism in the Jordan River, identifying the believer completely with His mission. For us the old has passed away behold all things are new. As believers are baptized, they are welcomed into the family of God, receiving the assurance that they are deeply loved and chosen.
