At this point in the Israelites journey to the Promised Land, it may be easy to think that God should give up on Israel. From the outset, the complaining, rebellion, and doubt have been a constant theme. In our passage for this week, the Israelites face a devious enemy that wants to bring a curse upon them and defeat them. Enemies that want to bring an end to Israel and the people of God is nothing new throughout all of history. A divided prophet is called upon to help the enemy, but God has a different plan. Despite the plans of the enemy and the continual sin of Israel, we will see that the Lord is determined to bless His people, and there is nothing that the enemies of Israel can to do to thwart God’s plan for His people.
