As Jesus is baptized by John in the Jordan, God speaks words of identity, love, and affirmation over his ilfe as he is annointed with the Holy Spirit. But then the Spirit leads him into the wilderness to be tested by the enemy. What is this testing all about and why did Jesus pass on this story?

After a year of relative obscurity, Jesus emerges preaching a simple message "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near." This was the central messge of Jesus. But what did his original audience think when they heard this? What is exactly is the Kingdom of Heaven? And how are we to respond and enage with Jesus' words today? 

John the Baptist was an odd and eccentric figure, and thousands came to him to be baptized in the Jordan in preparation for Jesus. But what are we supposed to learn from the life of John the Baptist, in what ways are our lives meant to parellel his? 

As a child, Jesus and his family were forced to flee to Egypt as refugees, and return to the obscure town of Nazareth out of fear for their safety. This process involved the fulfillment of prophecy, but also the obedience of multiple parties.
