The Bible can be read as moral instruction, a guide for family and work, or a historical document—but is that its deepest purpose? In this episode of Rivers of Living Water, we explore the difference between studying Scripture for information and using it to contact a living Person: Christ Himself.
Working through John 5:39-40, John 6:63, and John 1:1, we consider why Jesus told the religious experts of His day that searching the Scriptures was not enough—they were unwilling to come to Him for life. We unpack the distinction between logos, the written Word of God, and rhema, the personal, living word God speaks to an individual through Scripture, the moment a verse becomes real, convicting, or directing.
We also look at why the Word and the Spirit belong together as "two rails" on which God's purpose moves: the Bible without the Spirit can become mere information, while the Spirit without the truth of Scripture can become subjective. Finally, we widen the lens to what Scripture ultimately unveils—God, Christ as the mystery of God, and the church as the expression of Christ—and what it means to approach the Bible not just to learn how to live, but to encounter Christ, receive His life, and participate in God's eternal purpose. 📖
