    Accompanying PDF: Jehoiachin and Jesus
    2 Kings 25:27-31  "And in the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, graciously freed (Gal 5:1) Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison (Luke 4:18). And he spoke kindly to him (John 15:11) and gave him a seat above the seats (Eph 2:4-6) of the kings who were with him in Babylon. So Jehoiachin put off his prison garments (Eph 4:22-24). And every day (Acts 2:46) of his life he dined regularly at the king's table (1 Cor 11:23-26), and for his allowance, a regular allowance was given him (Mat 6:23-31) by the king (1 Tim 1:17), according to his daily needs (Mat 6:11), as long as he lived."

    Rembrandt: Boaz Pouring Barley for Ruth

    Ruth 2:19-21:

    19 And her mother-in-law said to her, “Where did you glean today? And where have you worked? Blessed be the man who took notice of you.” So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked and said, “The man's name with whom I worked today is Boaz.” 20 And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed by the Lord, whose kindness has not forsaken the living or the dead!” Naomi also said to her, “The man is a close relative of ours, one of our redeemers.” 21 And Ruth the Moabite said, “Besides, he said to me, ‘You shall keep close by my young men until they have finished all my harvest.’”

    Acts 1:6-8:

    6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

    Joel 2:12-13, 28-29
    12 “Yet even now,” declares the Lord,
        “return to me with all your heart,
    with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;
    13     and rend your hearts and not your garments.”
    Return to the Lord your God,
        for he is gracious and merciful,
    slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love;
        and he relents over disaster.
    28 “And it shall come to pass afterward,
        that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;
    your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
        your old men shall dream dreams,
        and your young men shall see visions.
    29 Even on the male and female servants
        in those days I will pour out my Spirit.

    From the Greenwich Bible Study luncheon, April 27, 2016.  Audio only here.

    COME THOU FOUNT
    Robert Robinson, 1757

    Come Thou fount of every blessing
    Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
    Streams of mercy, never ceasing
    Call for songs of loudest praise

    Teach me some melodious sonnet
    Sung by flaming tongues above
    Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it
    Mount of Thy redeeming love

    Here I raise my Ebenezer
    Here by Thy great help I've come
    And I hope by Thy good pleasure
    Safely to arrive at home

    Jesus sought me when a stranger
    Wandering from the throne of God
    He to rescue me from danger
    Interposed His precious blood

    Oh, to grace how great a debtor
    Daily Im constrained to be
    Let that grace now, like a fetter
    Bind my wandering heart to Thee

    Prone to wander, Lord I feel it
    Prone to leave the God I love
    Heres my heart, oh, take and seal it
    Seal it for Thy courts above
