  • The Importance of the Heart
The Bible speaks of the heart as the core of our being, the seat of our emotions, and the center of our thoughts. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Matthew 5:8 reads, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Jeremiah 17:9 states, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Psalm 37:4 says, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” In other words, the Bible emphasizes the importance of having a pure, humble heart that is devoted to the Lord. It is through a heart devoted to God that we can find wisdom, strength, and peace.

  • It is all about Jesus
Focusing on Jesus in our Christian lives is essential. Jesus is the center of our faith. His teachings are the only, true way to relate with God. By paying attention to Jesus and his teachings, we can deepen our understanding of what it means to relate with God in spirit and truth. Focus on Him always.

  • Consolation without Logical Reason or Cause
Not all consolations are from the Lord. Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light. Our hearts can also deceive us. But there are times when we can be more sure that something is really from the Lord. This is called "consolation without logical reason or cause". In other words, it cannot be from you or from anyone else because there is no logical reason for it. Also, the feelings and thoughts are actually drawing you closer to God (not away from him through doubts, etc.), thus making you trust Him more despite the surrounding circumstances or feelings you are experiencing.

  • Rejecting Negative Thoughts About Ourselves
There are many possible signs that our enemy, Satan, is trying to deceive us. One of the most common strategies is to attack our self-identity or self-worth in relation to God. Our enemy wants us to doubt that God cares for us and that He loves us truly.

  • The Temptation to Secrecy
There are times when we really need to keep things private. But sometimes the enemy tempts us to keep things in secret which otherwise should not be kept secret. In other words, we need to be accountable when it comes to decisions and actions that we want to take, especially if we are being bothered inside our hearts about it. The Spirit of God would not just let us go outside of God's will without warning us in our spirits. But the enemy loves to deceive us by telling us that we don't have to confess it to others. We don't have to be accountable. This is the temptation to secrecy.

  • The Limited Power of Our Willpower
It's a common misbelief of people to trust too much on their willpower. They think that all they need to do to change anything in their lives is through their resolve. Our willpower is essential but it's not all-powerful. Other aspects of our being, other than willpower, affect our lives.

  • Redeem the Time
Time can easily pass us by. Before we know it, a whole morning or afternoon is wasted. What is even more wasteful is when we use the time for worldly purposes, disregarding God's will for us, and pursuing what the world wants us to be and do instead of obeying God. Let us redeem our time and use it wisely to the glory of God.

  • Series of Choices
You cannot experience life change by simply choosing it or wishing for it one time. It takes a series of choices over time. You need to persevere over time, trusting in the Lord as you go about obeying His will each step of the way.
