An international aid flotilla to Gaza - containing about 60 boats - left Barcelona a couple of weeks ago carrying supplies for the Gazan people. But on Thursday they were intercepted by Israeli forces west of the Greek island of Crete - still about 700 nautical miles from Gaza. Four New Zealanders were detained by the IDF but another, Hahona Ormsby of Ngati Maniapoto, managed to escape capture along with his crew.

Tamaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum is displaying a rare 18th century pauku, Maori war cloak, which is on loan from Durham University in northern England. Dr Kahutoi Te Kanawa is the Pou Arahi Curator Maori at Auckland Museum and co-Director of the Museum's textile and fibre knowledge exchange centre, Te Aho Mutunga Kore.

Hinemoa Awatere has been appointed as Tumu Whakarae at Te Taura Ora o Waiariki, the Iwi Maori Partnership Board for the Te Arawa rohe, which advocates for the healthcare of more than 30-thousand Maori in that area.
