Under the wings of Richard Nunns, Brian Flintoff and Hirini Melbourne, Alistair Fraser began playing and crafting taonga pūoro 17 years ago. He has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship to investigate and breathe life into the ancient instruments collected in Aotearoa by European explorers, which have been lying dormant in museums in the United Kingdom. He joins us in the studio armed with an arsenal of beautiful taonga, and a looping pedal, to play us a live session.
