  • Kupe waka heads for spectacular NZ Festival welcome
    The New Zealand Festival opens on Friday in Wellington with a performance on Wellington's waterfront that's been inspired by the arrival of navigator and explorer Kupe in Aotearoa New Zealand. A fleet of double-hulled waka houroa will be welcomed to the shores of Wellington Harbour tonight with kapa haka, song, and theatre. Music 101's Yadana Saw has been at the dress rehearsals.

  • Highly anticipated NZ Festival opens with Kupe
    Kupe, the great Polynesian navigator and explorer, as imagined by playwright Apirana Taylor, in one of the first shows of the 2018 New Zealand Festival in Wellington. It's also part of a week long Kupe inspired series of events starting with tonight's Waka Odyssey. This is also the farewell festival for its three time Artistic Director, Shelagh Magadza.     The surprise release of a collection of songs by Celia Mancini is the result of a project orchestrated by the musician herself, shortly before her sudden death last September. Melbourne-based archivist Glen Brewer worked with Celia before her death, after which he took over the project and ensured its completion.
