One of the biggest surprises of this year’s World Baseball Classic came when perennial powerhouse Japan national baseball team was eliminated by Venezuela national baseball team. Japan jumped out early but couldn’t hold off a late Venezuelan rally that sealed an 8–5 victory. The win not only knocked Japan out of the tournament but also helped Venezuela secure a place in the upcoming Olympic baseball competition, sending them toward the 2026 Summer Olympics while Japan heads home earlier than expected.
