"The main incentive for companies to embrace more sustainable behaviours is economic: they need to see that they can obtain a reduction of costs by applying virtuous approaches connected to the reduction of waste and the use of discarded materials in closed or open loops."

Lorenzo, Principal Teaching Fellow in Economics of Energy and the Environment at UCL, talks about how behavioural economics can help in designing incentives for economic actors to pursue environmental goals.

"You may not appreciate the benefits of having a healthy diet across 50 years, but in 50 years you will. One of the biggest problems in climate change is that policy makers tend to carry out behaviours which have immediate benefits, but lead to negative consequences for the planet which are far away in the future, so that it is difficult to see the tangibility of the problem now."
